Bov (4604), Bienne, Switzerland Feb 1, 2007 labelled Bicentenary Stout; thanks to fiulijn for this one ! - very dark brown colour with almost no foam; deep chocolatey aroma, notes of prune, cherry, cocoa and alcohol; powerful malt body, sticky and oily with a very robust and aggressive bitterness, very long aftertaste where notes of roasted coffee, chocolate and dark fruits accompany the never ending bitterness and a warming alcohol touch - delightful ! fiulijn (5860), Como; Lausanne (CH); Malmö (SWE), Italy Dec 19, 2005 Black color, thin brown head. Aroma of malt, bread, caramel, cardboard, light raisins and tar, very light phenol. Thick mouthfeel, malty, sweet, with caramel, liquorice, roasted malt, and balancing strong bitterness (very long final). Everything is perfectly mixed together. A wonderful brew! Hugh (116), Breda, Netherlands Aug 13, 2006 Bottle. Possible this is a scaled up version of Harveys Porter, but it is magnificent. Black, medium white head. Flavour initially seems very bitter, but once the palate is used to it it is a triumph. A mass of wonderful flavours, a really complete experience. I phoned the brewery in excitement - it’s a one-off brew, but enough prompting from punters and it will be reintroduced under another name. JonMoore (1547), Loughborough, Leicestershire, England Dec 27, 2005 Bottle. Black with a large reddish tan head. Aroma of sweet malts, caramel, dark fruits and a touch of tar.
Now that is a good stout.
Sweet malty, caramel, licorice, raisins and a bitter tar finish. Full bodied. Excellent. Mes_and_Sim (4176), London, Greater London, England Apr 30, 2008 A Mes rate: bottle at Chris_O’s Ha Ha Ha Ha Gimme the Cheese Tasting. Ang has had some bottle of this growing a little bit older and a little bit wiser for some time now, we just havent got around to opening one yet, although the one in my ’cellar’ winks at me everytime I open the door. This particular bottle came from Casper (Ethereal) who found it in his gran’s kitchen. Jesus nobbing Christ, what a find mate. Superb black with tan looks that is about as close to perfection for a stout as I have seen. A little mellow in the aroma compared to what I was expecting but it’s still damned amazing. Thick and chewy caramel malt with a tarry and almost smoky character. Wonderful alcohol notes. Rich as hell and nothing short of incredible. Such glorious chocolate. Absolutely bloody awesome. Unreal length. So ridiculously good.
Sorry for the crap rate I just got too carried away and had to scribble notes furiously at the end. This deserves much better and I’ll attempt to do so next time I have some... Ang???
