Comments: A certain fruitiness from the yeast keeps the interest level up for this rather chewy and thick stout with a pungent mineral character.

Bottle@Chris_o’s. Nice stout. Nice aromas of chocolate, caramel, and mocha. Palate is lightly sweet to start, but combatted nicely in the finish with a nice long roasty malt finish, which also shows notes of dark chocolate, and also rum n’ raisin. This was very nice.

Aug 2007 chris_o Shindig Smooth chocolate stout - soft and oh so dreamy delicious. Lingering bitterness. Enjoyable and full of character. It has the the clean, lifeless taste of a filtered beer - however, still awesome.

Lovely really rich, deep brown, almost black appearance. Lots of roasty malt, coffee and chocolate in the aroma. More of the same on the palate. Smooth, but firm, mouthfeel. Quite tarry, but not heavy. Beautifully balanced and possibly the best beer of the day, despite the very strong opposition. I’d love to try this one on cask. Shame it seems to be a one-off.

Bottled. Black with a light brown, medium sized head. Weak roast aroma with toffee and caramel and licorice. The roast flavour has notes of smoke and charcoal, and a long lasting burned aftertaste. Seemed a little thin for that rich flavour.

Bottle @ Chris_o shindig 2007. Dark brown color with a small to average, fizzy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, light brown head. Aroma is moderate malty, roasted, burnt, strong coffee, coal. Flavor is light to moderate sweet and bitter with a average duration. (Coal / burnt bitter). Body is medium, texture is oily, syrupy, carbonation is soft to flat.

Bottle at the Chris_o shindig. Deep black, nice rust colored head. Luscious caramel brown sweetness--deep and comforting in a way I associate with a good doppelbock. Flavor is an oceany iodine, soft sour chocolate, a bit of apple esters, nice chalky bitterness. A real stunner at less than 5%, and one of my most memorable beers of the tasting.
