harrisoni (5605), Ashford, Kent, England Feb 7, 2006 Cask gravity at Dover BF 06. Dark reddish brown with beige head. Really quite pleasant if slightly sticky sweet, quite a meaty aroma with lots of orange. Nice dry hop finish and some boiled sweet. Better on the second half pint KimJohansen (5208), Copenhagen V, Denmark Dec 30, 2008 Mahogany with a medium off white head. Aroma was sweet with roasted malt and caramel notes. Flavour was sweet with roasted malt, caramel and hints of chocolate. Finished mild bitter. MesandSim (4723), Highgate, Greater London, England May 11, 2008 A Mes rate: Cask at The Wenlock.
Stunning deep dark amber red colour. No head but who cares? Aroma is an awesome blend of barley, port, spice and sugar. The flavour is even better. Fantastic sweet and sour character. Loads of barley suger offset by an old ale type sourness. Liquorice, spice, just a lick of hops and the characteristic Harveys orange notes. If this was heavily hopped it would be an absolute stunner. Where the hell is the alcohol? The only thing stopping me downing this is the sweetness. Damn this is good beer. Incredible sweet yet sour finish. It’s an absolute joy. Fantastic palate. Not even a hint of carb but it’s sheer velvet. Amazing stuff. I could get extremely drunk on this before I even noticed I was on my way. Love that the abv column on the Wenlock chalkboard says that this is 8.1(ish). Another bloody cracker from Harveys. chriso (4434), London, Greater London, England Dec 24, 2004 Deep ginger colour. Herbal aroma, with spices, dried fruit and hints of bubblegum. Flavour is sweet and herbal with some vinous notes - sherry trifle, maybe even port. Pretty good, but rather sweet, so I wouldn’t want too much. A real warmer, but the alcohol is not excessively intrusive. Cask (handpump), at the Royal Oak, Borough.
