3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
English barley wine. Chestnut color appearance. The head is basically nonexistent. A spicy, brash mouthfeel that wears the alcohol on its sleeve. Caramel malts and dark cherry flavoring. This is definitely a sipper!

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Cask at The White Horse, London. With our Mes on a rare visit to the gold paved streets of Larndon where cats walk on their hind legs with knotted hankyís on a stick over one shoulder. Sod Noddy Holder, this screams Christmas loud. Huge sweetness and a rich texture. Christmas pud, spices, creme brulee all that good stuff. Couldnít drink glass after glass but itís a real treat for one glass.

Apparently an unofficial alias for the Christmas Ale after Christmas.
Cask (White Horse Parsons Green)
7 lovely sweet spicy, clove Iíd say, appley aroma.
4 Deep red, next to no head.
8 glorious sweet toffee-apple retronasals. Touch of mushroominess, a little old-ale nuttiness too
5 Sticky sweet palate, no carbonation. Finish to die for, initially a sweet malt rush, quickly a wave of olde mushrooms, and then a gloriously resiny bitterness, which lasts a long time.
16 I often mark down such sweetness, but like Thomas Hardyís you sometimes just have to forgive it.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Cask at the Wenlock Arms, London. Poured a cloudy, ruby-brown with an easy, off-white head. Sour malt aroma with faint fruits and earthy hops. Sweet, tart, malty flavor, also vinous with hints of sugar plums, apples and toffee, syrup and brown sugar. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Has a sweet, wine-like finish with a boozy kick and more sour notes. Awkward, but decent. Canít really understand the tart, sour fruit notes.

Cask in the royal oak. Alround rating: Well punch me in the granny this was good. Big toffee malt sweetness, harveys minerally character actually helps to balance more than any hop, the juicey fruit cake fruit richness is perfect. The best barley wine iv had in a long time.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Cask @ Charlies Bar, Cph.
Pours lightly hazy red-brown with little off-white bubbles on the surface. Aroma is sweet, caramel, toffee, vanilla, Christmas Pudding, lightly vinious, prunes. Low, but lively carbonation, lovely oily mouthfeel. Flavour is rather swee, herbal, some holly, vanilla, light oak, walnuts, prunes, raisins, strawberries. Softly vinious. Lovely that! Good balance between the sweet and the bitter - light chocolate dryness in the finish. Lovely!
