obisbeer (554), Madrid, Spain Jul 6, 2004 Very dark, with little or no head. Chocolate, toffee, cream adn molasses nose. Very rich, brief finish, w/toffee and roasted malt lingering. Slight molasses, butter chocolate, soft mouthfeel better as it warms, a lot of sweetness and carmel. Great beer! MesandSim (4623), Highgate, Greater London, England May 11, 2008 A Mes rate: Cask at The Wenlock.
Stunning deep dark amber red colour. No head but who cares? Aroma is an awesome blend of barley, port, spice and sugar. The flavour is even better. Fantastic sweet and sour character. Loads of barley suger offset by an old ale type sourness. Liquorice, spice, just a lick of hops and the characteristic Harveys orange notes. If this was heavily hopped it would be an absolute stunner. Where the hell is the alcohol? The only thing stopping me downing this is the sweetness. Damn this is good beer. Incredible sweet yet sour finish. It’s an absolute joy. Fantastic palate. Not even a hint of carb but it’s sheer velvet. Amazing stuff. I could get extremely drunk on this before I even noticed I was on my way. Love that the abv column on the Wenlock chalkboard says that this is 8.1(ish). Another bloody cracker from Harveys. harrisoni (5474), Ashford, Kent, England Feb 7, 2006 Cask gravity at Dover BF 06. Dark reddish brown with beige head. Really quite pleasant if slightly sticky sweet, quite a meaty aroma with lots of orange. Nice dry hop finish and some boiled sweet. Better on the second half pint Joeh (1892), Buckinghamshire, England Dec 9, 2004 Updated: Dec 11, 2004Rating 950. Cask conditioned at The Royal Oak, Borough, London
Flat looking, no head but a little carbonation. Distinctive sweet, fruity aroma - with alcohol in the background. Syrupy & fruity, sweet, fruity and a slight tartness. Very, Very nice.
Sampled on the Ratebeer London Meetup & Pub Crawl, December 2004. With Silktork, Chris o, Maeib & Kook Ethereal (927), London, Greater London, England Dec 27, 2007 Cask at the Royal Oak with tashi on 13th Dec 2007. Similar to the bottled version - a bit more lively and slightly less strong on the aroma. Still excellent.
