gwfrankpsu (231), Rancho Cordova, California, USA Feb 2, 2004 No head though the beer might be flat, but the beer was fine. Well, nice aroma with a hint of the 8.1% ABV and a warming, malty taste. I found the beer thin on the palate with a weak finish. Not a great beer, but nice on a cold winter night.
Mitch_Wayne (100), Kokkola, Finland Aug 7, 2008 Another good one from Harveys. Wood and sherry present in the aroma again, plummy scent brings xmas into my mind. Sweet taste with bready notes and plummy flavor with a hint of bitterness in the end makes this one of my xmas favorites. The alcohol is amazingly well hidden, never would have guessed this was so strong. polomagnifico (413), Saginaw, Michigan, USA Aug 2, 2008 Bottle. Aroma has notes of dark dried fruits, caramel malts, wood, and port. Dark tea hue with an average sized khaki head that mostly diminished and left good lace. Flavor is sticky sweet caramel malt with port tones and a little bitterness. Palate is full bodied and sticky. Oily flat with a cloying finish. A nice and solid barley wine. Good in every way it should be. Angeloregon (1856), Portland, Oregon, USA Jul 29, 2008 Small bottle from By The Bottle in Vancouver, WA--This bottle had aged some so the bold hops and malts meshed together nicely but maybe a little too much. Poured a deep amber body with a soft beige head. Lots of sweet sticky caramel notes. Mildly cloying, but not too bad overall. nearbeer (1220), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Jul 28, 2008 275 ml, no date on bottle cap. Translucent chestnut with a small head that lasts with some soapy lace. Aroma is earthy spice (juniper?), sweet berries and caramel. Flavor is blackberries and cream with some sherry, caramel, a dash of black pepper, and a finish of oak and vanilla. Medium-heavy body is creamy smooth and finishes dryish. Nice sipper. LawStudent09 (315), Saint Paul, Minnesota, USA Jul 25, 2008 2004 vintage. Deep brown color with no head. Nice lacing. Dark fruit nose with some candy sugar. Dark fruit and fig in the taste Dry wood finish.
