Commercial Description:
Generally available only in pasteurised bottle. Has occasionally appeared in cask. Currently 8.2%, but has been brewed at 8.1% and 8.3%.
Originally brewed to mark the Queen’s Coronation in 1953, this golden barley wine proved so popular that it has been brewed ever since. It is comparable in strength to the beer produced by Tudor brewers during the reign of Elizabeth I. It has won many prizes and, at the International Brewers’ Exhibition 1968, was awarded the Championship Gold Medal. Regular drinkers simply asked for a ‘Lizzie’.

27,5cl bottle @ VinensVerden, Odense. Pours clear amber with no head. Nose is sweet. chewy malty, lots of caramel & sugar. Smooth mouthfeel, low carbonation. Dark fruits & fine vinousness. Warmth from alcohol. An enjoyable Barley Wine!

1999 Vintage! Finally got around to trying this brew that i bought in Denmark a few years ago. Apperance: Deep dark brown/red with a minimal lace. Aroma: Barley, Raisins, Caramel, Syrup, Malt, Port wine. Flavor: Sherry, Caramel, Molasses, Figs, Ripe Fruit, Sugar. Palate: Very sweet with very low carbonation. Warming. A fine old ale / barleywine that has aged with grace. Would have been interesting to see how this brew tasted fresh. This makes for a perfect dessertbeer or just something to sip at late at night. Very nice!

Nice clear ruby colour. Small beige head. Some hints of madeira, prunes and raisins in the taste. Sweetness. A nice one. Tasted at Pikkulintu.

275 ml. Deep chestnut with a small ring of lasting bubbles. Aromas of raisins, toffee, oak, brown sugar, light chocolate and apple. Tastes of luscious dark fruits - raisins, dates, prunes, fig. Some oak, scorched toffee, cured tobacco, creamy sherry and tingly-sour notes of cherry and apple. Medium-heavy body leans to the dry side just enough and has only slight carbonation.

Bottle. Low but lasting fluffy off-white head. Hazy very dark red brown body. Vineous aroma of reoasted malt caramel and raisins. Flavor as indicated by the aroma but also a good deal of alcohol and a fair amount of hops bitterness. Low carbonation, short aftertaste.
