4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Jonte (1223) - Gothenburg, SWEDEN - SEP 12, 2010
Bottle. 275 ml, 8.1% vol. Thanks to Mes. The bottle looks a few years old. Reddish brown colour with a beige head. Sweet & malty, vinous, fruity, caramel, jam, berries, earth, nuts, a bit of bitterness just to balance all the malt. Tasty with cheese. A very nice barley wine! My 1000th rating.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 17thfloor (2301) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JUN 19, 2010
Bottle from? I don’t know but easily over a year and half old. Wow! What a cool beer this is, took me completely by surprise. Pours a fairly flat somewhat viscous brown with a minimal bubbly head. Aroma is lovely nutty, rich booze accents the nuttiness, just a hint of buttery toffee, not much fruit, really an extraordinary toffee aroma, not in a overly diacetyl way though. Flavor follows, nice rich nutty flavor, toffee, very smooth, 8% is a nice abv for this and seems to fit perfectly, some subtle cotton candy flavors, brown sugar, bit of fruit cake, raisins, touch of coffee, this is just plain delicious, very balanced and isn’t cloying like similar English BW. Medium bodied, a bit gritty, basically no carbonation, not too viscous and stays drinkable, very drinkable. Great beer!!!
3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Vignale (914) - Malmö, SWEDEN - JUN 8, 2010
Någonstans mellan en strong ale och en barley wine. Maltigt söt kropp med toffee och sirapslimpa som bryts av med en för kategorin ganska oväntad beska med lång eftersmak.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 drjay44 (1735) - Salida, Colorado, USA - MAY 27, 2010
275 ml. bottle. 8.1% ABV. Pours a minimal light beige head over a clear amber (SRM 8) body....nose is raisin, dried cherry, fig, molasses, brown sugar, hint of juniper berry....taste is sweet malts, with brown sugar, caramel/toffee, light raisin, fig minimal bitterness, slightly hot on the finish....mouth feel is thick, carbonation low. This is a sweet Barley Wine, and is rather lightly hopped compared to many. It is a classic English Barley Wine. BJCP 8/3/15/5/8

Bottle. Pours a reddish brown with a thin tan head. Aroma has strong caramel, alcohol and bread notes with a slight nutty and odd fruity undertone. Flavor is similar but starts a bit weak and the caramel note builds. Again there was an odd fruit note.

Bottle:
Smell is a mix of yeast, sour, grass, hops, spices and bread (yeast?)
Very small (to no) white head, disappears quick.
Amber colored beer.
Viscous syrop like feel in the mouth.
Taste is a very well balanced mix of hops, ale taste, barley wine, syrop (medicine) and some sugars.
Very interesting ale!
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 daknole (5858) - Scottsdale, Arizona, USA - FEB 3, 2010

3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 dchmela (2271) - Orlando, Florida, USA - JAN 2, 2010
1998 bottle. Pours a dark brown with a thin tan head. Surprised there was still carbonation! Candy apple, tart cherry and toffee aroma. Taste is thin toffee, tart fruit and an off bitterness. The aroma is there, but there seems to have been some oxidation that has given it some off flavors.
