2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 heykevin (1269) - Decorah, Iowa, USA - JUL 3, 2002
Poured with no head whatsoever. Sour winey aroma, with some scent of oxidized hops. Flavor is of strong plums and prunes, actually more prune than plum. Thick, sticky mouthfeel, and a very, very sweet finish. Not for me.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 brewbandit (312) - Marietta, Georgia, USA - JUN 22, 2002
Cloudy mahogany ale with thin to no head. Cabonation very light. Slight oxidation present. Bitterness balanced by solid raisiny, faintly toffeeish malt. A decent ale, but too similar to the Harvest ale without the alcohol.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Indra (2361) - Overland Park, Kansas, USA - MAY 1, 2002
UPDATED: JAN 15, 2008 Cloudy brick-red/deep amber color. Carbonation is fine, head slight. A variety of wonderful fruity malts in the aroma. Somewhat light on the tongue and in mouthfeel for the style, but has a good deal of flavor, no doubt. Raisin, plum, and apple butter flavors are presented with a certain amount of sweetness, as well. Not heavy enough to be cloying, however. Hops factor into the finish, but the overall aftertaste resounds with the maltiness, along with a very slight hint of alcohol. Very smooth palate, especially for the style. Medium-bodied. Leaves the side of the glass being drank from slightly sticky... Truly British.

Fairly light and low alc for a barleywine, but still a pleasant malty strong ale. Beautiful deep red-amber color with thin long-lasting head. Rich, complex fruity aroma: pear, peach, squash, vanilla. Flavor is strong and warming with a solid hop bitterness, and fruity malts. Smooth tobacco finish. Smooth light carbonation, full, mouth-filling flavor. Complex and filling, a real winter warmer.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Ringo (963) - Loveland, Colorado, USA - FEB 5, 2002
1998, bottle # 2019. Pretty good, but not great. Thick and sweet, but flat and lifeless for the (relatively) low alcohol strength. Tastes sort of like Thomas Hardy’s or J.W. Lee’s but does not have the strength. You would be better off getting one of those if you want a strong ale.

Red-brown. Very fruity, big maltiness, smokey. Complex.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 biergeek (3) - Brooklyn, New York, USA - DEC 2, 2001 does not count
Intense raisiny malt in the nose, with hints of candi sugar and
chocolate. Surprisingly moderate body, with the maltiness not as heavy
as I expected from the nose. More roasted flavors come through, coffee
and bitter chocolate, also a few fruitier notes. Still mainly a big
maltiness, though. Finishes with a lasting bitterness, and a moderate
warmth from alcohol.
Very, very good, and surprisingly free of oxidation flavors in a beer this
old (bottled 1996, bottle #0785).

pretty decent barley wine that I would have rated higher, but the yeast gave me an allergic reaction

It has an amber colour with a beautiful creamy head. Fresh aroma of apple and orange. Slightly bitter and acid, apple taste. Nice length and well-balanced.
