COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Generally available only in pasteurised bottle. Has occasionally appeared in cask. Currently 8.2%, but has been brewed at 8.1% and 8.3%.
Note: this is different to the 2012 Jubilee edition.
Originally brewed to mark the Queen’s Coronation in 1953, this golden barley wine proved so popular that it has been brewed ever since. It is comparable in strength to the beer produced by Tudor brewers during the reign of Elizabeth I. It has won many prizes and, at the International Brewers’ Exhibition 1968, was awarded the Championship Gold Medal. Regular drinkers simply asked for a ‘Lizzie’.

Bottle from? I don’t know but easily over a year and half old. Wow! What a cool beer this is, took me completely by surprise. Pours a fairly flat somewhat viscous brown with a minimal bubbly head. Aroma is lovely nutty, rich booze accents the nuttiness, just a hint of buttery toffee, not much fruit, really an extraordinary toffee aroma, not in a overly diacetyl way though. Flavor follows, nice rich nutty flavor, toffee, very smooth, 8% is a nice abv for this and seems to fit perfectly, some subtle cotton candy flavors, brown sugar, bit of fruit cake, raisins, touch of coffee, this is just plain delicious, very balanced and isn’t cloying like similar English BW. Medium bodied, a bit gritty, basically no carbonation, not too viscous and stays drinkable, very drinkable. Great beer!!!

Någonstans mellan en strong ale och en barley wine. Maltigt söt kropp med toffee och sirapslimpa som bryts av med en för kategorin ganska oväntad beska med lång eftersmak.

275 ml. bottle. 8.1% ABV. Pours a minimal light beige head over a clear amber (SRM 8) body....nose is raisin, dried cherry, fig, molasses, brown sugar, hint of juniper berry....taste is sweet malts, with brown sugar, caramel/toffee, light raisin, fig minimal bitterness, slightly hot on the finish....mouth feel is thick, carbonation low. This is a sweet Barley Wine, and is rather lightly hopped compared to many. It is a classic English Barley Wine. BJCP 8/3/15/5/8

Bottle. Pours a reddish brown with a thin tan head. Aroma has strong caramel, alcohol and bread notes with a slight nutty and odd fruity undertone. Flavor is similar but starts a bit weak and the caramel note builds. Again there was an odd fruit note.

A clear red/brown colored beer with a beige head. The aroma of malts and bread, some fruits with a little alcohol. The taste is malty sweet and some fruity. It’s dry with a little bitterness. The aftertaste is bittersweet.

Bottle: Smell is a mix of yeast, sour, grass, hops, spices and bread (yeast?) Very small (to no) white head, disappears quick. Amber colored beer. Viscous syrop like feel in the mouth. Taste is a very well balanced mix of hops, ale taste, barley wine, syrop (medicine) and some sugars. Very interesting ale!

Brown pour. No head. Aroma is caramel and fruit. Flavor is sweet with lots of caramel and honey with a bit of wet toothpick. Pretty damn good. Nice.

1998 bottle. Pours a dark brown with a thin tan head. Surprised there was still carbonation! Candy apple, tart cherry and toffee aroma. Taste is thin toffee, tart fruit and an off bitterness. The aroma is there, but there seems to have been some oxidation that has given it some off flavors.
