2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 JPDIPSO (4956) - Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA - DEC 7, 20041998 Bottle. Deep cherry wood color with a ring of beige bubbles around the edge of the snifter. Rich red wine aromas. Dust plastic and leather flavors start, with dry caramel middle and sweet plum and prune finish. The linger is the best part of this brew. Long lasting caramel flan and touch of peat. Otherwise, don’t see much here.

500 ml bottle, 2002 vintage sampled in 2007. Dark brown body with a medium sized beige head. Not particular strong but nice aroma of malt, caramel, cherries and vinous alcohol. Flavor is sweet malt, caramel, fruit, acidic berries and vinous. Quite complex. Fine body and pleasant aftertaste.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Scopey (3380) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - JAN 1, 2013
Bottle at home. It pours clear red-Brown with pretty much no head. The nose is toffee, fruit cake, tinned fruit, over-ripe pineapple, cherry, spice and wood. The taste is toffee, maple syrup, fruit cake, wood, vanilla, leather, spice, wood polish, raisin and some alcohol warmth with a smooth, sweet finish. Medium-full body, low carbonation and oily mouth-feel. Balance is spot on. Dangerously drinkable.
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 worldbeertaste (1133) - Lancashire, ENGLAND - NOV 21, 2012
Clear medium dark copper with a red tint and a fizzy, no lace, disappearing tan head. Smells of malt, raisins, dark fruit like cherries, raisins, plum, almonds, marzipan or vanilla. I think it has a Christmas cake nose. Medium to full oily body with soft carbonation. Sweet toasted malt with caramel. Woody and smooth with vanilla, chocolate and alcohol. Would be nice to age it to get that booze taste out. Smoky elements. Very nice, its a strong ale that moved to the next stage and became something special.

Bottle 275ml. [1998]
Pours sligthly dirty brown, with almost no head. Aroma is of sugar, dark fruits, madeira. Taste is of sugar, malt. Taste totally collapses. Sligth madeira, weird notes. Oxydated. Sligth cardboard. Palate: very soft carbonation. Overall: Indeed too old, can still be drunk although.

Bottle (275 ml) 1998. An extra from iguenard, thanks Ian! Murky brown with a very thin beige head and no lacing. Aroma is very oxidized with dark fruits and caramel. Taste is also extremely oxidized with caramel and dark fruits. Body is thin, almost watery. The beer look interesting but it’s a couple of years past is prime. It was a fun experience though.

Bottled 22/09/12. A mahogany coloured beer which poured with no head. A sweetish beer with brown fruit notes and cakey boziness throughout. A bit of a caramel edge. Boozy and deep old fashioned English barley wine which is just right for me.

Candied plum and dark fruit flavor. Weak body. A watery mouthfeel. Dark and rich looking. The appearance doesn’t quite match the disappointing flavor. Tried with the parents in London in 2012.

Strong flavors, a huge heady alcoholic aroma as well as taste. Its beautifully, majestically deep notes push all the way through the beer.
