Commercial Description:
Usually only available bottle conditioned as Imperial Extra Double Stout. Has occasionally appeared on cask as Harveys Imperial Russian Stout.
Also known as A le Coq Imperial Stout - bottle only.
Ingredients: Pale, Amber, Brown and Black malts; high levels of Fuggles and Goldings hops
"Regarded as one of the World’s most unusual and prestigious beers. The recipe contains a dense concentration of varied malts and hops to produce a bottle conditioned stout. This brew will improve over six months to one year to develop its complexity. This beer has an intense flavour which is complex and distinctive. The roast, alcoholic and spicy notes combine in this unusually sweet & sour beer."

bottle-pours no head, I then poured it from 12” high and got a few bubbles for a few seconds and oil sludge black color. Aroma is vinuous, molasses, dark fruit-raisin/some plum/figs, sugar cane, vanilla, oak, slight tar, alcohol. Not my style but a delight to breathe in, spectacular. Taste is lots of weed/grainy, red wine mouth feel with the related tannins, chicory-almost coffee. Some slickness at initial and mid taste. Minimum/no carbonation. Thanks to Joe-jwc215 for picking this out.

12oz bottle. black color with absolutely no head (unlike the one in the picture). aroma is an overpowering mix of molasses, roasted malts and chewing tobacco. the taste is soy sauce, wood, figs and tobacco. astringent finish. I wasn’t even able to finish this one... that might be a first.

Imperial Rodenbach? THis was a 2001 bottle that was highly vinuous, unlike any imperial stout I’ve had before. Interesting, but not something I would go for regularly

This was a very deep dark pour with a thin tan head. The aroma was of deep roasted malt and almost an almond or nut, coaco and heavy molasses. The flavor on the other hand was very difficult to pin down. I’m going to have to give it the old palms up and shoulder shrug. I liked it though.

Tastes of Soy Sauce. 1 of 4 beers I have ever poured out (with about 900 beers tasted so far). I fail to taste the complexity and I can’t say that I will ever try this beer again. Absolutely terrible!

My first imperial stout ever and boy did it make me jump at first. Now I can say I truly love the sherrylike taste with huge molasses and rather challenging taste that ends up nicely dry and woody. The body is so extreme it makes the uninitiated run for cover and the sediment on this big boy looks eerily like frogspawns.

Bottle 2001 vintage. Dark brown pour with red around the edges. Absolutely zero head. Smelled of a port wine or a full bodied red like a Zinfandel. Did not get much sweet from this one, some roasted malt and mocha, mostly red fruits. Full bodied, but not much outside of the dark red fruits and alcohol. Definetely a bit sour on the finish. Have a feeling this one was a bit over aged. If not than something I would not try again. By the ratings sounds like the 2003 vinatage has been received much better.
