| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 2/5 | 10/10 | 4/5 | 20/20 | Jun 2, 2008 2003. Rich, deep black body with no head at all. The aroma is incredibly alcoholic, backed by dark fruit, molasses, soy sauce, vinegar, chocolate and espresso notes. Brutally strong taste! Very malty and focused on the dark side of things - soy sauce, roasted malts, brown sugar, espresso, port, oak, bourbon, chocolate cake, fudge, and so much more. The lack of carbonation doesn’t bother me in this brew. The flavors are so strong and intense that you have to sip it. This is really a fantastic imperial stout, and I hope to brew something along this line real soon. The black, thick, syrupy sweetness of Le Coq is really unmatched. In a world that’s so crowded with stouts, this one stands out in the crowd. kempicus (350), Wellington, New Zealand

Vinous and tobacco on the nose with whisky overtone. Slightly thin body with flavours dominated by a whisky note like it’s aged in whisky barrels also leather and marmite with dark fruits and peppery heat. yespr (11906), Copenhagen O, Denmark
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 29, 2008 33 cL bottle, 2003, Harveys Imperial Extra Double Stout. Pours pitch black with a little bubbly dark brown head fully disappearing in an instant. Aroma is overripe fruit towards wineous notes. Solid malt note too. Flavour is quite intense fruity at first before a solid tar and soy sauce flavour hits the tongue. Hardroasted and with a gradual increasing fruity note towards the finish. Solid bitterness and acidic touch into the finish with a dense fruit note and even more tar. johndoughty (2157), cheslyn hay, West Midlands, England
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 23, 2008 Bottle.Black with a wine like aroma. First impression was of port crossed with stout. No carbonation and no head.
Pleasant, different but only an occasional drink. MoDog (916), Griffith, Indiana, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | May 22, 2008 Poured from an 11.2oz corked bottle (2003 vintage) and served in a snifter. This stout poured a solid jet black with almost no head. The aroma of the beer was made up of fermented fruit, plums, high quality cherries, molasses, and sugary licorice. The flavor was dominated by heavy black strap molasses. Most of the sweet fruitiness displayed in the aroma was unable to creep through the heavy malt. One-sided and a bit dull. The mouthfeel was full-bodied and heavy in the belly, but at the same time, it felt a bit thin (maybe due to age). Not all that tasty, but it was substantial...this would definately qualify as a meal in a glass. 11.2oz was a bit much to drink in one sitting. jmikolich (405), Athens, Ohio, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 18, 2008 A typical extreme IS, much like WWS, with port-like qualities. Pours a wickedly thick, oily, and viscous. Firm and caramel colored head. Definite notes of oaks (namely a sweet smoke, but subtle). I felt a little rushed, drinking this with friends, but this was a finishing blow to a hefty night of drinking as is. Oddly tart for an IS, but it was still pleasant and sippable.
