charlotte (1997), Vanløse, Denmark Apr 21, 2008 Black colour with no head.Aroma of licorice and wet tree feels oily and with heavy note of alc slight rosted finish and not one of the bedst stouts in the world i guess. railcat1 (578), Orlando, Florida, USA Apr 14, 2008 This was a strong and very sweet IPS with little to no head and a nice chocolate and very complex and thick but a good sipping beer.CHEERS! travita (1861), Frisco, Texas, USA Apr 11, 2008 Black with no head even trying to pour one. Very strong sweetish smell. Thick body with an almost wine like feel. Fruity sort of taste. Reminds me of a port.
lucke13 (90), Des Moines, Iowa, USA Apr 9, 2008 2000 vintage. Pours a deep black...looks like watery used engine oil. There is zero head, and I think this is intentional becuase there wasn’t a wire holding the cork on the bottle. Smells almost like bread soaked in soy sauce. Very bitter taste with only a hint of traditional stout in the background. Even though it was cool, it made my tounge feel warm when I drank it. The alcohol is very apparent. Not a good beer, especially for the price. glaze0101 (79), USA Apr 5, 2008 I popped open the cork and took in a breath and it smelled so good. Pours totally black and I was shocked, NO HEAD. So I came here, I am not alone in this lack of head. The thing is that it is flat but not bad per se. think and syrupy not bad, not good. The flavour does not seem off by the way. douglas88 (1559), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA Apr 2, 2008 Updated: Apr 3, 2008Bottle shared by footbalm. I am really surprised that this beer is so often bad. I mean, for what might be a good beer, why does it so often turn to crap? I cannot understand this, but before opening Eric warned that it was often quite off, and it was. The cork had no pop at all. A black body with no head. The aroma is sour soy sauce. The flavor has suggestions of the good beer that this could be; some brown sugar, coffee and malts. But, there is that sour and soy sauce flavor. I wish that I could try this beer without the infection. Sephiroth (66), Indianapolis, Indiana, USA Mar 26, 2008 1999 Vintage: I have poured this into a tulip. It is possibly the blackest beer I have ever seen. Totally still. The nose is of dark, roasted malt, and dark fruits.
The taste is of chocolate, then a vinous quality, and then smooth, roasted malt. There is a bitter coffee flavor at the finish. This has aged well. The mouthfeel is quite light for such a big beer. The lack of carbonation is not an issue. As for drinkability, I am compulsively sipping this beer to death. I have never had any other vintage of this.

keith0718 (157), Olathe, Kansas, USA Mar 22, 2008 The beer’s unique, I’ll have to hand it that. Tastes like three parts port wine, one part soy sauce. Not very enjoyable.
