bennylava (83), California, USA Mar 22, 2008 Bottle. Pours black with absolutely no head. Initial tastes are sweetness accompanied by a tangy sourness. Dark malt flavors as well as chocolate, coffee, and even some saltiness. Very interesting brew. LongJaw (7), West Palm Beach, Florida, USA does not count Mar 15, 2008 Pours black. Spicy nose. Tastes of alcohol and chocolate, with a little sweet raisin floating around. 2000 vintage bottle that I enjoyed but gladly shared. ShawnMalloy (119), Auburn, Massachusetts, USA Mar 15, 2008 Vintage 2003. Pours a thick black. Aroma of licorice, mixed with dark malts. The taste a roller coaster ride of sorts, as the complexity of it has almost too many characteristics. Strong in licorice and molasses, but lacks in the department of roasted or chocolate malts. A bit salty. A bit sweet. A bit sour. A bit odd. johnadam2002 (529), Hainesport, New Jersey, USA Mar 12, 2008 Ohh man. Absolutely terrible. I had to find out if mine was shot since imadeadguy rated his. And it was. Poured thick black with a tiny brown head. Aroma of soy sauce. Taste was all soy and alcohol. imadeadguy (378), back in NJ!, New Jersey, USA Mar 11, 2008 2000 vintage. Pours like 10,000 mile motor oil with no head what so ever. Aroma of soy sauce. Tastes like soy sauce and not much else. Wasn’t feelin’ this one at all. No thanks! ElGaucho56 (386), USA Mar 9, 2008 Vintage 2000. Pours a viscous motor oil black with only a minimal dusting of carbonation. Nose is like christmas pudding: dark currants and raisins soaked in brandy butter. Mouthfeel is strangely silky yet somehow light, with strong roasted malt character developing in molasses sweetness towards medicinal alcohol and surprising English hop character considering its age. A unique and occasionally enjoyable stout. hughie (3016), Bedford, Bedfordshire, England Feb 23, 2008 Bottle, 2003. Very dark brown with a slight tan head. Thick sweet heavy aroma of sugar, plums, dates and raisins. Sourness in the taste is followed by sweet chocolate and cocoa, ash, alcohol, liquorice and espresso. Then a sharp bite of bitterness, despite which the overall impression is oily and smooth. A wonderful beer. But not too often. WolfsBlood84 (103), Indianapolis, Indiana, USA Feb 17, 2008 Vintage 1999 11.2 oz Bottle - Pours a black oil with no head (don’t know if this intentionally non-carbonated?). It smells like a lambic and a stout mixed. It tastes much the same - like chocolate and little bit like cherries. This is alright, but it needs carbonation and then I’d probably love it.
