Lou18 (1353), West Paterson, New Jersey, USA Feb 13, 2005 2000? That is what the label said. Wow! Over Overwhelming aroma of oak, scotch, and wine. I fear this is past its prime. Black liquid with little to no carbonation or head apparent on the pour. Oh, God, this is awful. Tasted like the bottom of many old abounded wine bottles and garbage drums mixed with crap. This is most possible the worst thing I have ever tasted. If it was this or Bud light, hands down, bud light would be a God send. AVOID THIS!, unless drinking straight soy sauce from those little packets is your idea of a good night out. Oh! I cannot finish this, I feel like I need to puke. nicolascage (105), Copenhagen (Virum), Denmark Feb 8, 2005 2001:A nice black color, with a characteristic taste of liquorice and raisin. Very low carbonation. The finish is heavy and long. BrockLanders (747), Panama City, Florida, USA Feb 7, 2005 2002 bottle -- Pours a syrupy black with virtually no head. I thought I detected some sweetness in the aroma, but my first taste let me know that was a mirage. Tastes almost like a liqueur with soy, prunes, over-roasted malts, oak, and mabye some molasses. Make no mistake....soy steals the headlines, but I recognize some serious worstershire notes too. Regarded as one of the Worlds most prestigious beers? If they say so, but I think they’d be better marketing it against Lea and Perrins.
ThomasE (5179), Copenhagen, Denmark Feb 3, 2005 Bottle vintage 2001. Almost pitch black body with beige head. Aroma is malty with hints of coffee, chocolate and dark fruit. Flavor is powerfull with both licorice, coffee and chocolate. All in all a very complex beer. pubbe (493), Højbjerg, Denmark Jan 27, 2005 As multi-layered as it is black! It´s so fat and heavy, that I actually wasn´t able to finish it. Not really my kind of Stout, but impressive though! Garrat (1132), Suffolk, England Jan 14, 2005 Updated: Jan 15, 2005From a bottle.Black as the witchfinder generals cloak.Smart brown head.Too heavy and oily for me at this stage in my life. crzybob77 (528), Richmond, Virginia, USA Jan 9, 2005 Thick dark opaque black. Wow, very complex. Has a strong salty taste. Very oily thick and smooth mouthfeel. Taste is woody, chocolatey and bitter. Definitly a slow sipper. iam (369), Mississauga, Ontario, Canada Jan 9, 2005 2001 vintage. Pours a black, opaque black with no head at all and absolutely no carbonation. Port like aroma with soy sauce and burnt malt also present. Big thick, oily mouthfeel. Sweet malt and sour cherry taste initially changing to a coffee flavour. Complex, There’s lots of tastes and aromas going on here but I can’t put my finger on all of them. Alcohol present in both aroma and taste. Certainly a change from the norm.
