2.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
2001:A nice black color, with a characteristic taste of liquorice and raisin. Very low carbonation. The finish is heavy and long.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
11.2 oz bottle. 2003 vintage - my last of several bottles of this vintage that I’ve held onto until now. Pours an opaque deep rich black with rapidly fading brown head that leaves no lacing, only a small collection of brown bubbles on the surface. The beers is viscous, and leaves legs when swirled. Aroma is complex and overpowering: wood, the richness of soy sauce, oak, vanilla, bittersweet chocolate, wet tobacco, and booze. Flavor is palate-wrecking: fig, raisin, plum, cedar, cigar char, soy sauce, butterscotch, vanilla, rum, lactic tang and roasted malt. Alcohol is well-hidden, full mouthfeel. Palate coating finish. A not-so-distant cousin to Sam AdamsTriple Bock; one of my favorites for many years.
A pithc black beer with a chocolate brown head, though disappearing. The aroma is light though complex containing notes of wood, burnt caramel, prunes, raisins, and chocolate both sweet and bitter. The flavor is very complex too; at first it is very woody, in the middle: fruity, combined with hops, oil, soya, spices, licorice and chocolate. To end on a dry woody finish combined with notes of licorice and chocolate. The palate is great and all in all this beer is great!

4.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Gorgeous black colour, good +1" head of foam, lacing is pretty spectacular.
The smell is roasty, lots of chocolate, big notes of Brett, light aroma of tartness.
Chocolate and tartness up front in the taste, licorice, Brett flavours, and roasted malt. It kind of sounds like a mess, eh?, but to my palate, it is hitting on all cylinders.
Smooth and creamy full body with ample carbonation.
Just a damn treat to drink. 9%abv, 9.3 oz bottle.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle. Appearance is pitch black, with a finger’s worth of a mocha head. Aroma- sweet candy, liquorice, smoke hints, leather, tar, a bit of toffee and molasses. Taste- roasted malt hints, liquorice, sugary sweetness, some blackcurrant, a bit of fruitcake, some coffee in the finish. Coats the mouth but slightly cloys. An interesting stout.

1.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 5/20
This is unique all right. But there are lots of unique things in this world that have taken things too far. This beer is barely drinkable. It is a real challenge. I could think of some interesting food pairings with it but as a drink on its own it’s awful. Coffee and hops bitters dominate and put this beer over the top. Even with aging I have a hard time imagining this as a good beer.

2.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
This is what happens if you brew soy sauce with an imperial stout. Very strong, but not appealing. - March Madness 2014

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from Beer Hawk - Jet black body, thick firm lasting beige head. Nose is a winey, sweet balsamic vinegar, lots of fruit and a bit of smoke. Mouthfeel is great - meringue like - nice robust and oily. Taste is a strange sweet and sour mix, but in a good way, with a boozy warmth going down. Very nice and enjoyable IRS.

2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
1999 Vintage shared at the Taster’s Choice gathering.
Thick black liquid with a faint tan head that disappears almost instantly. Sharp raspberry lactic tartness with hints of oxidation and band aid like phenols. Light ashy roasty aroma barely makes it through the other smells. The flavor follows the aroma. Light sherry and sharp fruity flavors with some wet cardboard held together with band aids. Light caramel and ashy roast flavor round it out. Medium to thin body with a thin layer of carbonation. I’ve heard its a crap shoot whether you get a nicely aged bottle of this or not. Unfortunately we drew the short straw here. I will re-rate if I find a better example of this brew.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
2008 vintage. 275 ml bottle poured into snifter. Pours thick and pitch black with a thin, creamy deep tan head that melts away to a swirly film. Strong aroma of sweet roasted malts, toffee, coffee, and Worcester sauce. Huge roasty coffee/toffee flavor with a long and complex finish that I’m at a loss to describe. Palate is thick and chewy... this is definitely one to take your time with.

1.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 3/20
11.2 oz bottle
Motor oil pour. Pitch black. No head at all with this. Thick and syrupy looking thing.
Odd nose. Roasted malts, chocolate, balsamic vinegar, Vegemite, and lacto. Very odd and just does not suit well.
Taste was pure Vegemite and balsamic vinegar with touches of milk stout. Not good at all. High carbonation and thick body. awful

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Cask Third of a Pint at GBBF 2013, Olympia, London Aug 2013 - Black in colour. Very Malty; very roast malts, dark chocolate, coffee, toffee, liquorice. Spicy; salty, soy sauce. Fruity; dark fruits, plums, raisins. Hoppy; grassy hops. Slightly oily. Very warming alcohol. Sweet very roast malty with hints of sour. Harveys say "unusually sweet & sour beer" and they are right. Enjoyed it. Interesting Impy Stout!
