3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Cask in the Market Porter and The Royal Oak. Alround rating: Typical harveys minerla character dominates, fairly sweet pale honey malt, floral and fruity, the mineral character does balance, but not entirely. Alround not one of my favourates from harveys.

Royal Oak, London. There’s so much going on here. Sweet malts, fascinating glittering minerals, warm, chewy hops, characterful yeast that brings the beer to life. Temperature and condition bang on. So drinkable yet so fascinating.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Cask at the Market Porter. It pours clear golden-amber with a decent off-white head. The nose is earthy, dough, mild Harvey’s sulphur, biscuit and straw. The taste is crisp, bitter-sweet, biscuit malt base, earth, grassy, straw, floral, pepper and a touch of honey with a dry finish. Medium body and soft carbonation.a big step up from the bottled version. Solid Harvey’s action.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: MAR 1, 2015 2014 - Cask in The Royal Oak, Borough. Clear golden amber, medium white foam head. Nose is sulphurous Burton snatch, grain malt, light honey, classic Harveys yeast (light sulphur, fresh cut field mushroom, sweet and sour), sweet grain malt. Taste is sweet grain malt, light honey. 3.1 Re-rate 1/3/15 - wow. Such is cask ale that only could this happen with it. you go from a 3.1 to a 4.3. Clear light brown to amber, with a thin white head. Nose is just amazing. So much going on. Led by a slightly tangy and sour rhubarb fruitiness which is coming from yeast esters, There’s also papaya, white apple, light aged wood, some peach in the background and then the subtle fruitiness of Harvey’s yeast and that slight musty grain character. taste is tangy fusty rhubarb, spice, deep rich woodiness, musty grain. This was one of those sublime cask ale moments. Right time, right place, right beer, although The Royal Oak always delivers something like this.
