Bov (4623), Bienne, Switzerland Jun 1, 2008 Updated: Jun 4, 2008courtesy of Laurent Mousson - clear dark reddish-brown colour, no foam left; aroma of apple and ginger; some sweetness and a dynamic palate; quite dry and malty, nutty finish; high carbonation Rune (1662), Tromsø, Norway Apr 1, 2008 275ml bottle. Beige head over a dark ruby coloured body. Black malty aroma followed by a sweet malty, almost candy sweet taste sustained by liquorice and slightly offset by the addition of spicy tartness. Weak and thin palate (Thanks to Wivi-Ann, 17.03.2008) Doppelganger (1126), Oxford, Oxfordshire, England Feb 25, 2008 Thanks to Silk for this bottle!
Russet brown, small beige head. Rustic wine barrel aroma and the spicy wet soil under oak forest. In contrast to the full, generous aroma, the flavor is rather wan and pale. (Like me, after a long winter in the dark.) Very light green grape tartness with the first sips, then slowly a leafy mineral sweetness emerges. The lovely aroma of this little ale makes me wish all the more for more flavor and body. (Both of which cask serving could probably help.) Joeh (1892), Buckinghamshire, England Jan 9, 2008 Bottle from the brewery. A brown coloured, sweet and slightly winey beer. It’s very strange. Ethereal (894), London, Greater London, England Dec 27, 2007 275ml bottle. Dark brown colour. Nutty malt aroma but let down by weak palate and light flavour. The lower strength really doesn’t help. Seek out the XXXX Old Ale on draught for a much better experience.
