A premium bottled beer, originally brewed as No.1 Brown Ale but renamed due to the number of awards it has gained at successive International Brewers’ Exhibitions since 1952. 275 ml bottle. Dark copper with a strong reddish hue. Small off-white head. Clear. Prunes, caramel and some cardboard. Lightly oxidized. Mellow and very soft mouthfeel. Mild sugary and caramel flavour. Thin-bodied, but not dry. Instead there is a little residual sugar. Clearly boiled for a long time as there are lots of caramelization going on. Hops can only be detected far away in the background.

Small light beige head. Translucent dark red body. Sweet caramelly aroma with notes of cream. Mild sweetish caramel taste with more creaminess. Aftertaste is vaguely roasty. Interesting! (0.275 bottle.)

courtesy of Laurent Mousson - clear dark reddish-brown colour, no foam left; aroma of apple and ginger; some sweetness and a dynamic palate; quite dry and malty, nutty finish; high carbonation

Bottle from the brewery. A brown coloured, sweet and slightly winey beer. It’s very strange.

The aroma is sweet malty with hints of fruit. The color is red brown and it has a fine brown head. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of roasted bread. But the body is thin as noted by the others.
