Oakes (6979), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Nov 25, 2000 Updated: Jul 31, 2006This is very complex - treacly, with port-like flavours and aromas, a rich dark fruit character, an oily body, and a
touch of dark chocolate as well. A top five porter. argo0 (6231), Washington DC, USA Nov 28, 2005 (500ml bottle, labeled Tom Paine Original Old Porter) Small but creamy beige head atop a brown-black body. Aroma is mild, medium sweet, molasses, nutty. Taste is moderately sweet, caramel, port, some plum, chocolate, light roast, earthy. Watery light-medium body with low carbonation. I find many of the bigger Harvey beers to have too much treacle, but the same elements, toned down, work better here. fiulijn (5900), Como; Lausanne (CH); Malmö (SWE), Italy Jan 8, 2004 Very dark, with a brown head. Roasted malt; very strong liquorice taste, dry mouthfeel. Strong bitterness, with coffee notes. duff (5407), Sydney, Australia, Surrey, England Jul 24, 2002 Deep brown to black colour. Raisiny, liqorice aroma, with a bit of roasty coffee flavours. Quite sweet, raisiny anise flavours, with a roasty malt finish, i liked it, but it was a little sweet.
