caledonian (365), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Oct 27, 2007 Pours opaque black, not much head. Oily aroma with some yeasty notes. Fairly smooth, some milky chocolate texture and flavors. This is a beer to let linger in the mouth to appreciate.
Strangebrewer (41), Chatham, Ontario, Canada Oct 1, 2008 Pours dark ruby-brown with almost no head, aroma of burnt raisons. A bit flat, sweet, malty licorice and metallic. Finishes like bitter black coffee. Definetly not for me. PaulHegedus (115), Brampton, Ontario, Canada Oct 1, 2008 Bottle. Pours black with a long lasting, permanent head. Served cellar temp. There are aromas of fresh gingerbread, homemade cookies, molasses, toffee: very spicy too, like winter baking fresh out of the oven. Mouthfeel is light, slightly watery. Flavour is less interesting than the aromas. I taste some molasses, raisin, chocolate. Ported (61), Ontario, Canada Sep 30, 2008 Dark brown, thin tan head. Fairly mild flavour, roated malts, hint of coffee, chocolate, brown sugar. Was hoping for some more punch. Very easy going. Sanchex (221), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Sep 20, 2008 I’ve had this before and remembered it being better. Aroma is a of roasted malts and molasses and taste is all molasses. I don’t get any coffee type flavours but just a hint of bitter chocolate. Somewhat astringent with thin body. Cheers! matt7215 (578), Cambridge, Ontario, Canada Sep 19, 2008 500 ml bottle from the LCBO. pours deep reddish/brown with a nice tan head that lingers and laces. the aroma is quite fruity with a touch of roasted malt. very thin flavours with roasted malt making up most of the flavour. thin and in need of hops. not a good buy at $3.95 per 500 ml bottle.
