3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours black with tan head than thins. A notable aroma, freshly sawn timber. Smooth and balanced with light carbonation. A residual warmth with raisin. Probably one of the best beers from Harveys.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
7th October 2012
Opaque black - brown beer. Tidy tan head. Smooth palate, a little viscous and dry. Strong dark malt but only mild roast and bitterness. Unsweet dark chocolate and a traces of marmite and spicy bubblegum. Semi dry finish. All right!

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle at 8%, best before 2010, violets, faint sour plums, tobacco and black treacle on the nose, pours thick and oil-black, with a lasting fine brown head. The body brings burnt treacle and tobacco, hints of coffee and old red wine.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
2012-10-07, bottle from One Pint AS, bb Dec 2010 (4+ years old?), batch CIL, 8-4-9-4-17=42
Pitch black color with majestic brown head, compact and persistent. The aroma is very interesting, with roasted malts, dark chocolate and cacao nibs, light tobacco and vanilla, light sourness, very light phenols. Smooth mouthfeel, still quite round; very good flavor of roasted malts and dark chocolate, with a light touch of Christmas spices, some molasses, tobacco, very light sour touch; correct bitterness.

The botle is gushing a bit; black color. Sourish chocolate aroma. Smooth and rich chocolate flavor, with some light sourness; it has a vinous character.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
275ml bottle from an Offie in Hastings. Pours like used engine oil, a deep, shiny, luminous black colour with a ring of beige head; the aroma is full of sweet toffee coated nuts and earthy, sozzled, raisins; on taking a sip, the flavours explode in the mouth - tawny port, bitter chocolate, anchovies, moscavodo cherries, italian coffee - finally subsiding to a rich, chocolatey, licorice finish. An astounding beer.

4.8 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
275ml bottle from wine shop in Brighton. Bloody gorgeous. Black as hell - and deeply delicious. Soft as pillows, creamy stout with dark bitter notes. Splendid array of flavours. This is easy drinking beer, inviting, almost compelling, and ends too soon. I love this beer with a passion, and want to die drinking it.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
330ml bottle (Bottle Shop, Canterbury)
Very dark, a brief dark head. Burnt caramelised aroma. Toffee retronasals. Similar taste, but fuller and richer than even the aroma foretells. Sweetish, a little sticky. Some yeastiness too. Has a nice bitter bite. Could probably do with some aging to reduce the sugariness. However, it’s a nice caramelly sipper.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Opaque solid black that no light passes through. No tint and a light thin brown frothy head. Smells of a deep rich roasted malt with a strong burnt caramel, chocolate notes. Also soy berry and liquorice elements. Full smooth oily body. Flat. Sweet chocolaty roast coffee wood burnt taste that moves to a bitter dry malty alcohol liquorice finish. It feels a bit old fashioned and not refined. A few years in a cellar would clear this alcohol taste up.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
[275ml bottle, the Bottle Shop, Canterbury] Black, thin beige lacing. Slightly chalky, pungent aroma. Primary flavour is vegemite - huge umami component. Meaty. Coffee at the end. Despite all that, it’s quite soft in terms of mouthfeel - interesting stuff

Thanks Rich for sharing this bottle. Pours a dark brown colour with a fair tan head. Aroma of caramel, dark chocolate and alcohol. Mildly bitter with soy sauce and Marmite flavours dominating. Mild carbonation and an oily mouth-feel.
