COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Harvey’s of Lewes, the Sussex brewers, are about to brew their celebratory ale for the forthcoming royal wedding and it will truly be a taste of Sussex. The recipe will comprise malting barley, grown on the Duke of Norfolk’s estate in Arundel ; hops from Bodiam, Burwash, Robertsbridge and Wadhurst ; and honey from Hassocks. ’Royal Nuptial Ale’ is described as ’an ale for honeymooners - and all romantics - wherever they may be’. The inspiration for the beer came from Shakespeare’s ’A Midsummer Night’s Dream’. Head Brewer, Miles Jenner, explained " The play is set amidst royal wedding celebrations and highlights the eternal hope of romance ; Shakespeare was born on 23rd April, St. George’s Day, and his birthday celebrations precede the royal wedding by a few days. It all seemed a very natural combination." The beer will be bottled and available in mid April. A limited supply may also be available on draught.

275ml bottle from the brewery, drunk 25th April 2011 as well as several more bottles since. Bright golden amber. Nose has honey and warm orange - bit like a citrus cough sweet. Flavour similar with Harvey’s house style. Reminiscent of De Konick. Really nice.

Bottle. Pours a clear golden color with a small off-white head. Has a sweetish malty honey aroma. Sweetish malty caramel flavor with hints of honey. Has a sweetish malty caramel finish.

Bottle from Harvey’s shop. Pours very light and clear light orange brown. Nose is typical Harvey’s bottled caramel malt character, touch of charcoal and some English hop fruit. Taste is caramel malt, slight English fruit hop, but not much. To be honest I’ve had a lot of Harvey’s bottled beer recently and this is same old, pasteurised stuff with typical caramel malt and English fruit character. Yawn.

Bottled@Mes & Sim’s Wedding (thanks Ethereal!). Golden colour with a small white head. Aroma is bready malts, some fruity and floral notes along with mild dry fruits. Flavour is quite similar with also a bunch of honeylike sweetness in it.

Cheers to Casper for bringing this along. Clear gold beer, residual white head. Mostly malt and dried fruits - reminded me of a cheap strong lager but better and more well rounded.

(Cask, Royal Oak, Borough, London, 18 May 2011) Amber colour with frothy, off-white head. Malty, fruity nose with notes of citrus, apricots and hints of oak wood. Malty, fruity taste with orange marmalade, apricots and a fairly sweet finish with a generous citrussy bitterness and a touch of alcohol shining through. More than medium body, slightly sweetish. Well balanced, tasty and very nice.
