Commercial Description:
Cask; Seasonal - September. Also available in pasteurised bottle.
"This brew celebrates the time of year that historically has been associated with the gathering in of the harvest and the celebration of the seasons bounty. Southdown Harvest Ales is brewed to an original gravity of 1050 degrees to give an alcohol by volume of 5.0%. It is an "all malt" single hop brew using freshly harvested Sussex Fuggles , which together with our own spring water will combine to give a "taste of the South Downs". "

Maidstone Beer Fest. 2005. Wonderful. Soft sweet malt with the best of fragrant and dusty English hops. It is like drinking a piece of English beer history. Centuries of craftsmanship and tradition result in this glorious beer on this glorious day in this glorious place.

on cask at Royal Oak (London - Borough). Cloudy amber with a decent frothy off-white handpull head (the pints are filled right to the top at this establishment). Pungent, bitter aroma, quite startling - I’m sure it’s a type of hop I just don’t know, but this smelled like marigold, cedar shavings and juniper - so fresh and ... wow! As to the taste, well, initially my wife really hated it (she liked it a bit ten minutes later) but I was impressed - pungent, green acidic hop bitterness with a decidedly secondary light cereal malt backbone totally dominated by a bitter woodiness that now reminded me of mohogany dust (from woodshop lathing, that memory). Average cask body, very astringent indeed, with a long squeaky woody finish - I freaking loved it - a hoppy beer first try at a pub!

Cask. Amber pour wearing a solid off-white film. A very fresh, grassy and gently fruity ale that did the job wonderfully for me after carrying thirteen pints on my back for a few miles on a bright sunny day. Excellent woody yeast character, gently fruity (peach). Very refreshing, just enough minerality in the finishing bitterness. Clean, flowery, straight on pint with juicy hops that beg you to repeat the experience.

Cask - half pint. Served at a lightly room temperature (perfect!). Golden brown with virtually no head. Spicy and fruity (lemon) to the nose. Sharp flavour of oranges or orange shells combined with malty sweetness. After five of the Harveys ales at The Royal Oak in Borough we left for Market Porter 15.09.2006).

Cask, 5.0%. This ale has a full mouthfeel, getting a little sweet. The hop character is nice, has a bit of tea and spice. Ends on a nicely rough note.

Cask Conditioned at Charlie’s Pub, Copenhagen, 2006-09-23, 7-4-8-5-16=40
Copper color; thin persistent head. Very nice hoppy aroma. The flavor is full malty, even if the body is not thick, with a malty fruitness and an excellent grassy hopping, very distinctive; some sweet caramel. Balanced flavors, fresh. Excellent!

Cask Conditioned at Charlie’s Pub, Copenhagen, 2006-10-24, 7-4-8-5-16=40
Beautiful light amber color. Earthy malt aroma with some hops. Smooth mouthfeel, malty taste, a bit chewy, fresh and fruity; residual sweetness; it has a good bitterness. A beauty of an Ale!
