Commercial Description:
Cask: Seasonal - October to May.
A dark seasonal drink. The advent of ‘Old’ is eagerly awaited by its devotees. Reminiscent of the mild ales produced during the early part of this century, it is brewed to an original gravity of 1040° -1044° using a high percentage of crystal malt and black sugars. The result is a soft, full beer with a nutty palate which has been awarded First Prize at the International Brewers’ Exhibition on three separate occasions.

Cask. Deep dark brown colur. Mild aroma of roasty malt, caramel and some dark fruits. The flavour has a pleasant soft roasty maltiness with some caramel, bit dark fruits, hops and a mild wood touch. Nice.

Cask-conditioned at the Royal Oak, London SE1 16/10/08. Dark brown with reddish undertones and a slight, off white head. Aroma of red fruit, caramel, nuts and milk chocolate. Easy drinking, with a sweetish flavour, repeating many of the notes found in the aroma, with some grassy hops and a short, dry finish. Good stuff.

Cask at the Royal Oak with tashi on 13th Dec 2007. A very dark brown with a mild aroma. Nutty sweet malt flavour with a hint of honey sweetness. Full bodied but drinkable, this is far better than the bottled Old Ale.

From cask at Charlies. Pours deep amber with a little lacing head. Slight herbal aroma. Flavour holds a rather dry bitterness and a quite dry malt flavour. Slight fruity note. Ends bitter and dry. Decent, but clearly somewhat off and not fresh.
