COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask: Seasonal - October to May.
A dark seasonal drink. The advent of ‘Old’ is eagerly awaited by its devotees. Reminiscent of the mild ales produced during the early part of this century, it is brewed to an original gravity of 1040° -1044° using a high percentage of crystal malt and black sugars. The result is a soft, full beer with a nutty palate which has been awarded First Prize at the International Brewers’ Exhibition on three separate occasions.

The darkest of browns before I would call a beer black. Lovely sweet roasted malt aroma. Sweet malt flavour. F*^%ing lovely I wrote.

Cask@Pigs Ear Beer Festival 2011. Rubyish brown colour with a small off-white head. Aroma is sweet malts, some toast and smoke along with some tobacco and ashes as well. Flavour is quite similar. A bit thin as for the palate, so could do with a bit higher abv.

Cask. Deep black brown color. Smells of carmel, nuts andtoast. Very malty and bland. Not what I’d expect from a low abv old ale

On cask at George and Dragon, Tarring, Worthing. Pours dark brown with a lively white head, Nuts, malt, bitter finish. Not bad at all. Better than Harveys usual blandness.

Cask at the Royal Oak. Dark mahogany with a fine creamy beige head and coffee, a vinous tartness and a hint of milk chocolate on the nose. Rich body, with lightly roasted malt, a touch of bitter-sweet chocolate, and a little prune on the palate. Very nice.

berkshirejohn (3020) - Bracknell, Berkshire, ENGLAND - NOV 7, 2011
Cask at the Blue Dolphin, Hastings, as Harveys Old Ale. Chestnut with a reddish hue, and a loose, bright, cream head; malty aroma with a touch of smoke; farily thinly bodied (that is, not too heavy), with a malty flavour - sweet at first, but soon becoming drier, with an attractive treacle toffee finish. This is easy to drink and beautifully made, but I would have liked a touch more "weight".

Cask at Royal Oak. Brown with small beige bubbly head. Slight oiliness. Aroma is quite vinous, but with a bit of caramel sweetness too. Taste is a bit pudding like, lot of dried fruit, and a bit malty too. Nice treacly texture. Quite nice.

Scopey (1659) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - OCT 10, 2011
Cask at the Royal Oak. It pours darkest brown, with ruby highlights and a decent beige head. The nose is dark fruit, caramel and malt vinegar. The taste is caramel, toffee, treacle, smoke, dark fruit, tobacco and leather, with a dry finish. Medium body and soft carbonation. Well balanced and tasty.

Dark brown of color with an off white head. An aroma of dust, prunes, raisins and mushrooms sauce. A flavor of dust, raisins, weak prunes, malt, weak sweets, burnt sugar and fresh walnuts.

Leighton (4100) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - FEB 23, 2011
Cask at the Lord Nelson, Brighton. Pours dark brown with a light, tan head. Aroma has some faint toast and caramelized dark fruits. Dark mlts, ripened fruits, mild doughy bread and light, herbal hops in the flavor. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Has a sweet finish with some tea-like bitterness and more dark fruits. Alright overall.
