Dark as the Devil’s eyes, but tinged with royal purple, this pours with sizzling white head that sadly soon evaporates. A mild, slightly sour, cheap balsamic vinegar aroma is repeated in the taste. The body is thin, a feature of a number of Harvey’s dark, low alcohol ales. The slight sourness develops into an oaky appleness. Quite tasty and refreshing. An unusual and interesting low alcohol brew.

275ml bottle. Black with a small, short-lived tan head. Sweet raisin aroma with a hint of creaminess and roasted malt. Light mouth feel with plenty of caramel, milk chocolate and prunes. The finish was soft and creamy. Plenty going on for such a weak beer.

[275ml bottle from Pallant of Arundel] Pours black with chestnut hints and a swiftly dissipating brown head. It isn’t as fizzy as it looks on pouring - in fact, the slight prickle of carbonation is perfect to offset the thick, smooth texture. Light aroma of roasted malt. Taste of caramel, chocolate and malt. Definitely sweet (there’s not a hint of bitterness), but not to a sickly extent - I did keep thinking it would become sickly but it never did. Quite a well constructed beer, although I think you’ll enjoy it more if you think of it as a soft drink rather than a beer - it really doesn’t taste like beer at all! There’s just a hint of sourness in the finish which didn’t quite work, but otherwise I was quite happy with it.

Bottle 27,5 cl. Courtesy of yespr. Pours a hazy deep dark brown with an orange hue and a small light brown head. Roasted malt in the nose with a little sweet dried fruits. Light body, a little low in carbonation, sweetish roasted malt, fairly metallic. Subdued bitterness. Almost like a Mild Ale really. 050211

Sweet. Yes sweet. Malty sweetness but still sweet. Nice to start with and then cloyingly sweet. Fizzy to a degree with hints of chocolate but basically it’s sweet malt liquor. Nice if you want something sweet.

Bottle, from Silktork. Thanks! Black like Van Gogh’s ’Starry Night’, surprisingly abundant and persistant tan head. A very odd aroma, though not without it’s own appeal: A sharp dried fig smell, iodine, fence post, and some distant childhood memory of medicine. Dried milk powder sweetness, Horlicks, molasses, chalky abrubt finish. Very gentle carbonation lifts things up from utter stickiness. My tastebuds are confused. Confusion, in small doses, is fun.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown black color with a small tan head. Has a roasted malty sweetish chocolate aroma. Sweetish roasted malty chocolate flavor with hints of sweet licorice. Has a sweetish roasted malty chocolate finish.
