4.4 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20 SilkTork (4738) - Rochester, Kent, United Kingdom, - JAN 23, 2008
275ml bottle, mail order from the brewery. Now this is lovely. That’s a good malt base and some nice soaked hops in there, but nothing heavy or aggressive, just nicely savory. The colour is a glowing golden amber. The beer is gently carbonated - more like an English Strong or a Barley Wine than a regular bottled Premium. There’s some roasted notes in the barley, and a good green hit of hops when breathing in the fumes. This is a gorgeous brew - well balanced and quite frankly more delicious than a pasteurised beer should be. But strong beers do stand up to pasteurisation better than the more delicate ones. I’m impressed with the hops - no cardboard notes at all. A great bottled beer.

25th November 2009 Clear amber beer. Slightly dry and slightly crisp palate. Crisp malt well integrated with light fruity hop. Finish is a little over dry for me but this is an easy drinking light ale. Fruit is peach and light orange.

50cl bottle found in Hastings. Golden amber with a ring of white head; rich malty aroma with a touch of sozzled raisins; full and fruity malt aroma; with a dry, solidly bitter finish with lingering hops. A rather good ESB.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Joeh (2036) - Buckinghamshire, ENGLAND - SEP 2, 2011
Rating from an old notebook. 275ml bottle. Delightful deep chestnut colour, no head, very low carbonation. Unmistakeable Harveys aroma, berry fruit, caramel. A distinctive sweet bitter, little in the way of hopping. Bitters don’t usually work in bottles, especially when they are pasteurised but as with the Armada these are among the very best examples. I really enjoyed this and look forward to drinking this on cask.

Pours clear light brown with minimal head. Nose is dominated by caramel with a bit of fruitiness. Taste is really well balanced between strong malt character and some light bitterness. Dry finish with some crispness. Really really well balanced. Very nice and very drinkable.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Aurelius (3147) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - DEC 11, 2010
Good label and bottle, clear light brown-amber beer with a lacy head. Sweet, toffee ale aroma. A somewhat bipolar beer - simultaneously strongly bitter and fruit-toffee sweet - it’s kind of like those neckties that appear one color when you view it one way and another color from a slightly different angle. The sweetness and the bitterness co-exist, but never quite meld. Nonetheless, this was an enjoyable brew. Medium body, long bitter finish with some lip-smacking sweetness and tang. Thanks to Triock for importing from Sussex.
