COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask: Seasonal - July.
Tom Paine is a premium dry hopped bitter named after the celebrated radical who lived in Lewes in the eighteenth century. America celebrates ’Independence Day’ on the 4th of July and in Britain CAMRA has designated July ’Independents Month’ in celebration of Britains independent brewers. This strong pale ale was awarded silver medal at the BBI Awards in 1993.

Clear medium to dark amber color with virtually none head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, wood - tobaco, moderate to light heavy hoppy, orange. Flavor is moderate sweet and moderate to heavy bitter with a long duration, spicy - peppery, a dry finish. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is flat. [20090801]

From cask at Charlies. Pours almost clear and deep orange with a bubbly and lacing off-white head. Fruity and bitterhops aroma, a bit on the darker side. Flavour is solid hops fruity with a light caramel malt base. Light acidity. Lovely apple, peach and plum fruity hops flavours into the finish. Light sweetness initially but gradually going more bitter. A bit oily palate.

Cask conditioned handpull at White Horse, Parsons Green. Attractive clear orange copper colour with no head. Harvey’s yeast aroma, some fruit, burst of hop in mouth leads to tangerine. Not too hoppy on end. Juicy sweet orange and malt finish. Pleasant 3.7/5
