No head. Aroma is molasses, dark fruits, coffee, dark chocolate, whiskey, burnt malt. Flavor is rich and complex. Lots of roasted malt, coffee, bakers chocolate, molasses, dark fruits, light whiskey notes. Mouthfeel is silky smooth. Finish bitter and a tad dry. Unique beer and cannot wait to try more old ales including the 16 and 30 Ola Dubhs. MoDog (917), Griffith, Indiana, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Oct 16, 2008 Poured from an 11.2oz bottle (#05389/Sept 2007) and served in a snifter. This beer poured almost black with some faint ruby highlights. A thin, lasting head of large tan bubbles resulted from an aggressive pour. Slippery lace coated the glass, then quickly fell back into the drink. The aroma included molasses, plums, oak, smooth whisky notes, baker’s chocolate, and some charred malt. The flavor consisted of dried plums, oak, cherry pits, heavily roasted malt, and some very mellow whisky. The roastiness wasn’t bitter or abbrassive at all. The mouthfeel was lush and velvety smooth. Full-bodied with mild carbontion. This beer was all about balance. The roasted malt and the whisky blended together seemlessly, never getting in the way of one another. A pleasure to sip! | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 12, 2008 Suttree’s 2008 Pre-Brewer’s Jam Tasting. Sample from a bottle thanks to Suttree. Thick pitch black pour with a thin tan head with nice lacing and ruby glints at the edges. Burning smoky scotch aromas still leave some dark pit fruit and chocolate aromas of the Old Engine Oil underneath. Flavor is more peaty earthy flavors until the finish where roasty bitter malts shine through. Suttree (2708), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Oct 12, 2008 Black, no head. Aroma is surprisingly fruity, mixed with Scotch notes. Flvor is also rather fruity, with hints of blackberry mixing nicely with peaty, esrthy notes. ChristianScheffel (4481), Odense, Denmark

Sweet with a very complex flavour of roasted malts and peat character. Most peaty of the Ola Dubh series. mattmc1973 (304), Sterling Heights, Michigan, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 6, 2008 12 oz bottle, pours black with a ruby tinge around the edges. Head is thin, frothy, and tan and dissipates fully, leaving no lacing. Wonderful aroma of smoke, wood, bitter chocolate, whiskey, and dark fruits. Aroma is better than taste, however. Taste of smokey wood, roasted malt, bitter dark chocolate. Thin and oily mouthfeel. alexsdad06 (1080), Ohio, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 5, 2008 12 oz. bottle. Pours a very dark brown/black color with a thin tan film for a head. The aroma has dark fruits, whisky, wood, roast, and moderate sweetness. The flavor has roasted malt, whisky, charred wood, a light hint of the dark fruits from the nose. I get a growing peatiness with each drink and I’m not sure that I like it. There is no carbonation to this at all. Medium to full bodied and a bit oily going down.
