marcus (1055), Sacramento, California, USA May 1, 2008 This black ale poured with a thin beige head. There is a nice malt flavor with a lot of coffee and chocolate and distinct whiskey undertones. Very pleasant.
lithy (219), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Oct 12, 2008 Suttree’s 2008 Pre-Brewer’s Jam Tasting. Sample from a bottle thanks to Suttree. Thick pitch black pour with a thin tan head with nice lacing and ruby glints at the edges. Burning smoky scotch aromas still leave some dark pit fruit and chocolate aromas of the Old Engine Oil underneath. Flavor is more peaty earthy flavors until the finish where roasty bitter malts shine through. Suttree (2355), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Oct 12, 2008 Black, no head. Aroma is surprisingly fruity, mixed with Scotch notes. Flvor is also rather fruity, with hints of blackberry mixing nicely with peaty, esrthy notes. ChristianScheffel (2250), Odense, Denmark Oct 11, 2008 Black with a small off-white head. Roasted malt aroma with licorice and a hint of peat smoke. Sweet with a very complex flavour of roasted malts and peat character. Most peaty of the Ola Dubh series. mattmc1973 (128), Sterling Heights, Michigan, USA Oct 6, 2008 12 oz bottle, pours black with a ruby tinge around the edges. Head is thin, frothy, and tan and dissipates fully, leaving no lacing. Wonderful aroma of smoke, wood, bitter chocolate, whiskey, and dark fruits. Aroma is better than taste, however. Taste of smokey wood, roasted malt, bitter dark chocolate. Thin and oily mouthfeel. alexsdad06 (671), Ohio, USA Oct 5, 2008 12 oz. bottle. Pours a very dark brown/black color with a thin tan film for a head. The aroma has dark fruits, whisky, wood, roast, and moderate sweetness. The flavor has roasted malt, whisky, charred wood, a light hint of the dark fruits from the nose. I get a growing peatiness with each drink and I’m not sure that I like it. There is no carbonation to this at all. Medium to full bodied and a bit oily going down.
