bb (2001), Martinez, California, USA May 5, 2008 Bottle (number 08531). Ruby-black beer with a slight brown head. Big peat, light roast, and oak aroma.Rich caramel, peat, and light roast flavor. Medium bodied. Nice complexity. Barrel aging not too strong. Very drinkable. Stronger, slightly more harsh peat/roast components than the 16.

DA (2288), Portland, Oregon City, Oregon, USA Jul 21, 2008 PIB 2008. Pours dark brown, almost black, with just a trace of a tan head that is gone before you know it. Big roasty flavor, take over by a warming scotch flavor. Earthiness brings out the smoked flavors. mar (519), Dallas, Texas, USA Jul 19, 2008 bottle thanks to bhops. black pour with an espresso head. roasted malts and vanilla on the nose. roasted malts and sweet vanilla overtone throughout the whole beer from start to finish. not bad but the 16 was way better. Bhops (170), Dallas, Texas, USA Jul 19, 2008 Pours black with no head. Aroma of molassas, sweet malts and hint of vanilla. Flavor is all molassas with some smoke, roasted malts and scotch. Medium mouthfeel. Good beer but I prefer the 16 and the 30. heemer77 (3611), Savannah, Missouri, USA Jul 17, 2008 Perfectly black body with a light tan head clinging to the sides of the snifter. The aroma is much milder than the 16 year old. It has notes of oak and only some light peat. There is also some dusty caramel and old leather. The taste has light notes of leather and toffee up front. In the finish, you get some fresh grass clippings and some tobacco. There is also a hint of salty seaweed, and it is interesting. A nicely crafted brew that I enjoyed more than the 16 year old.
