aracauna (2221), Georgia, USA May 11, 2008 I wish I’d known that there was a 30 year when I found the 12 and 16 year. Oh, well. It’ll have to be tasted another time, if at all. This is a pretty well-done whisky-barrel-aged beer. The beer itself is fairly light in body (for its size) and lacking the aggressive flavor of it’s American counterparts, it could have easily been overwhelmed by the whisky. As it is, there’s a definite, but reserve note of alcohol, a bit of char and vanilla. A little cocoa underneath that.
Odeed (1439), Bakersfield, California, USA Jul 25, 2008 (bottle no.1986,brew date sept. 2007)black body with a small tan head.aroma is heavy alcohol, chocolate, smoke, and roasted malts.flavor is heavy smoke, burnt wood, chocolate, with a malty finish.its different if anything. DA (2285), Portland, Oregon City, Oregon, USA Jul 21, 2008 PIB 2008. Pours dark brown, almost black, with just a trace of a tan head that is gone before you know it. Big roasty flavor, take over by a warming scotch flavor. Earthiness brings out the smoked flavors. mar (519), Dallas, Texas, USA Jul 19, 2008 bottle thanks to bhops. black pour with an espresso head. roasted malts and vanilla on the nose. roasted malts and sweet vanilla overtone throughout the whole beer from start to finish. not bad but the 16 was way better. Bhops (170), Dallas, Texas, USA Jul 19, 2008 Pours black with no head. Aroma of molassas, sweet malts and hint of vanilla. Flavor is all molassas with some smoke, roasted malts and scotch. Medium mouthfeel. Good beer but I prefer the 16 and the 30. heemer77 (3611), Savannah, Missouri, USA Jul 17, 2008 Perfectly black body with a light tan head clinging to the sides of the snifter. The aroma is much milder than the 16 year old. It has notes of oak and only some light peat. There is also some dusty caramel and old leather. The taste has light notes of leather and toffee up front. In the finish, you get some fresh grass clippings and some tobacco. There is also a hint of salty seaweed, and it is interesting. A nicely crafted brew that I enjoyed more than the 16 year old.
