Chris_o’s GBBF Shindig 08. Rich & heady. Very smooth and malty with a nip of bitterness. Tastes like Old Engine Oil. Aroma has some awareness of whiskey, but essentially this reminds me of Old Engine Oil.
4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 Rrauth (223) - - MAY 18, 2012
3 yr old bottle. Black with half finger tan head. Aroma doesn't have the overpowering liquor smell. Nice and smooth. I'd like to make a beer like this. Nice balance. Perfect

Pours pitch black color with medium, slightly foamy head. Aroma has a lot more vanilla compared to 12, but less peat and oak. Liquorice gets stronger as it warms up and some soy notes present themselves. Flavor of ash dry chocolate and vanilla. Bitter dry palate, slightly slick.

Dated Aug, 2010. Black light, whispy, beige head / Big, rich, musty nose of cocoa, coffee, salami, chalk, molasses, and oak / Medium body, a touch thin with soft carbonation, malty, decent finish / Musty flavors of smoke, salami, peet (scotch), bittersweet chocolate, roast coffee, caramel, molasses, prunes, vanilla, and oak / Very good, with classic European tight-knit, cooked flavors.

23rd August 2009 Opaque black stout. Much like the 12. Neutral to soft palate. Light malt, very slight roast. Lots of smooth whisky and a hint of vanilla oak. Overall very light for it’s make up.

Bottle#17274 Sept 2007. Pulled this out of my cellar. Pours like oil and no head. Aroma is strong, yet funky alcohol. Flavor is more complex, peat, vanilla, and smokey. I was expecting much more out of this one.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 AdamGott (258) - Idaho Falls, Idaho, USA - APR 21, 2012
black crushed charcoal pour with slight brown head - aroma of dark rich malt (toffee and a bit of coffee) - initial flavor impression is a slightly burnt caramel/toffee/coffee and a strong alcohol kick and an almost medicine like quality. Not really that great in my opinion, especially for a small $8 bottle of beer.
3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 maneliquor (1190) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - APR 21, 2012
Bottle from Mane Liquor. Pours motor oil black with a small, thin tan head. Quickly disappears and leaves some spotty lacing. To begin with, the only scent I get is lightly peated whisky. As it warms, some sweetness comes out with mocha tones. Sweet vanilla and peated whisky mix with roasted malts and light biscuit. Not bad but not great

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 tkrjukoff (2681) - SWEDEN - APR 21, 2012
Bottle 33 cl, BAJT, tnx to rlgk. Pours pitch black with a small bubbly rim of tanned head leaving lace. Aroma is sweet, vinous sweet, whiskey, barrel, fruity and slightly roasted. Flavor is dry acidy peaty in front, more whiskey and barrel character with vanilla and fruity tones in middle finishing addin the bitterness and more whiskey roughness. Good peatyness solid all the way til the bitter end ;).
