3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
1600th rating. A all black body and a beige head that had some retention and mild lace. Aroma was a good mix of roasted and caramel malts. Nice hints of oak peat with a mild alcohol note. Flavor had a nice roasted malt flavor upfront there was mild sweetness but mostly roasted malts. A nice flavor from the alcohol was in the background and it seemed a little more pungent then 8%. Some mild vanilla in the back along with a good peat note in the after taste. Body seemed thing but had a little more viscosity to it. A nice warming finish to it from the alcohol. Good beer.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from Great Grog’s, tasted together with 18yo. Pours very dark brown. Nose is roasted and burnt malts, chocolate, tobacco, leather, wood and whiskey, sweet notes as well. Taste is dark malts, light notes of whiskey, gentle vanilla and wood, chocolate. Whisky is quite gentle in general. Tastes thinner and less appealing than 18yo but smells better.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle number 08060, Sept '07:
Oily black body, with a short lived light tan head. The aroma is woody, but it's not all the barrel. This beer is oxidized, probably past it's prime. Faint roasted malt, and moderate dark fruit. Light caramel and hints of whiskey; papery... Taste is lightly bitter up front from dark malts, which is accentuated by age. Some toasty, roasty, and chocolate. There is a slight tartness about it. Light dark fruit which is sort of fig like. Body seems light, carbonation is lighter medium; alcohol is not noticeable. Slightly dry mouthfeel from alcohol and dark malts. Overall, not bad, but I should have had this years ago, before it past it's prime!

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Black colour with mahogany reflections; dark beige foam that fades away rapidly. Obvious smells of coffee and prune. Coffee all along, dark chocolate, wood, roasted and even burnt. Oily, rich; very nice bitterness. Gorgeous complementary match with gorgonzola on a chestnut and dried fruit bread; and in matching shades with a dark chocolate cake, of course.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle, shared by a kind soul, in a location remote of my dining room.
Pours basically black, and basically still... there are some whisperings of a head that are quickly hushed.
The aroma is roasty and peaty with some sweet maple wood and chocolate.
The flavor is sweet and lightly smoky with some dark chocolate, some light peaty earthiness, and a good dosing of vanilla.
