Ola Dubh (or "Black Oil") is so named because it is gloopy and viscous. This limited release has been matured in casks from Orkney’s award-winning Highland Park distillery to add complimentary whisky notes to what is already an amazing brew. It is chocolatey with a roasty, bittersweet aftertaste. Special Reserve 18, whisky notes: Highland Park 18 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky was named Best Spirit in the World by F. Paul Pacult; it offers toffee sweetness, almond nuttiness and a prolonged, smoky aftertaste.

April 2013 Bottle. Pours black with quickly settling tan head, no lace. Aroma is whisky, oak, caramelized sugars, dark fruits, and smoke. Big whisky and sweet oak flavors up front, toffee, and nutty in the finish, with a smoky, oaky aftertaste. Soft carbonation medium body, and smooth texture.

Huh must have rated this on RB before I got banned. Anyway. This was supposed to be an aging project. This bottle: Bottle number 4459. Bottled on Feb 2009. That’s old... I couldn’t legally drink when this was bottled.... sweet. Big oak note. Chocolate. A little roastiness. Appearance is brown pour with little head. Viscus. Taste is very smooth. Huge oak note. Whiskey comes through a lot. (I have gotten into whiskey now after all these barrel aged beers... just one more thing to spend my money on.... thanks Obama). A little light really. Probably too old. I mean... 5 years... that’s a long time. Watery on the palate. But very smooth. Probably because it’s too old. Overall this beer is solid, but it’s better fresh than aged. The whiskey notes really take over in this aged version. Will have to give a fresh bottle a go again.

330ml bottle, pours jet black with litte head and a low carbonation. Aroma is nicely complex with roasted chocolate malt, hazelnut, dried berries, toffee, oak and hints of whisky. Palate is creamy. Very well balanced flavours with a dry bitterness finishing atop a peaty whisky aroma. Really well crafted.

(19.05-2014 - butelka) Nieprzejrzyscie czarne, piana skąpa szybko znika. Zapach intensywny, śliwki w czekoladzie, likier, delikatny zapach drewna, zapach racez słodki lekko chlebowy. W smaku cierpkie, lekko alkocholowe, czekolada i praliny. Goryczka przyjemna i dość wysoka.

330ml bottle from Drinkmonger. Pours jet black, no head. Aromas of single malt whisky, coffee, chocolate, tar, leather. Taste is sweet chocolate notes, light whisky, light coffee bitterness, sweet finish. Medium body, in fact, I reckon upping the abv a couple of notches would improve this, making it richer in the mouthfeel. Still, a damn fine beer .

Whoa; another masterpiece in this line. Love it. Thick, sultry, and luscious. Body is a touch on the soft side, but I can’t help but think it fits perfectly here. The tinges of whisky and peat meld seamlessly with the palate and other dark flavors. In spite of its richness, could see having another. Finish is much easier and cleaner than I expected. Sumptuous beer.
