Ola Dubh (or "Black Oil") is so named because it is gloopy and viscous. This limited release has been matured in casks from Orkney’s award-winning Highland Park distillery to add complimentary whisky notes to what is already an amazing brew. It is chocolatey with a roasty, bittersweet aftertaste. Special Reserve 18, whisky notes: Highland Park 18 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky was named Best Spirit in the World by F. Paul Pacult; it offers toffee sweetness, almond nuttiness and a prolonged, smoky aftertaste.

Aged bottle. Pours black tar with no head. Aroma is very savory - soy sauce predominates. Taste is smoke, soy sauce, whiskey. I got no chocolate or sweetness. Kind of a mess. It could have been due to improper handling along the way.

Rated on 4-07-2010 (Bottled on 1-2009 and Bottle No. 10226) When poured, this beer has a small tan head that mostly diminishes, opaque black body, and spotty amounts of lacing. The aroma is malt, chocolate, dark fruits, and whiskey. The taste is sweet, chocolate and whiskey. The palate is tingly and this beer is medium bodied. Overall, this beer is not for the faint of heart. It is a sipping beer that would be a nice cold weather beer. It has a wonderful flavor, worth trying and definitely a beer I would drink again. More please!

Birra divina!

A black beer with a weak and light brown head. The nose is strongly roasted, some liquirice and berries, a barrel is clearly exposed with turf. Taste is strongly roasted and even slightly burned, some salt liquirice, hint of barrel and turf. In the end the barrel and turf is more dominating. Only medium bodied, should be more strenght in the body. Enjoyable beer with balanced Scotch barrel.

Black with no head, a little bit of beige froth on the top. Aroma of whisky,, peat, smokey, roast, wood, ham. roast malt, chocolate, really complex, excellent. Taste is sweet with a long finish, light bitterness. Oily texture, very low carbonation. Full body. Really, really tasty beer. Really impressed.

Bottle 09279 July 2011 from a friend (forgotten whom!). Pours deep black with thin tan head. Massive caramel nose. Some coffee notes and loads of soft whisky underlying it all. Lovely medium body with a little bitterness. Not too sweet or sticky although I could've done with a little more longevity on the finish. Great bottle.
