Ola Dubh (or "Black Oil") is so named because it is gloopy and viscous. This limited release has been matured in casks from Orkney’s award-winning Highland Park distillery to add complimentary whisky notes to what is already an amazing brew. It is chocolatey with a roasty, bittersweet aftertaste. Special Reserve 18, whisky notes: Highland Park 18 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky was named Best Spirit in the World by F. Paul Pacult; it offers toffee sweetness, almond nuttiness and a prolonged, smoky aftertaste.

Bottled from Bierkoning, Amsterdam. Very dark brown colored, beige head. Malty nose, caramel, molasses, liquor, some iron. Very complex flavor, malts, caramel, some coffee, roasted notes, toffee, nuts, raisins, smoky, aged notes, initially sweet with a lasting bittersweet finish. Very well balanced beer, a sipper, but one you keep sipping from. Great!

Black pour with surprisingly decent one finger brown head. Indistinguishable in appearance from the others sampled at the same time. All had the same basic notes of licorice, tar, tabacco, and leather. This one was significantly peatier than the other ones. Very smokey earthy finish. Interesting, but not my cup of tea.

Pitch black pour with a very nice head and visible carbonation. Heavy smell of peat, with some cocoa and dark chocolate. Peat and smoke in the taste, on top of a very sweet malty backbone - too sweet for my taste. Not much complexion aside from that. Drinkable beer, but the taste is a let down, but I have never liked peated beers too much.

Bottles drank in 2015 and 2010 from The Whisky Shop, Metrocentre, Gateshead. 2012 edition aged for 3 years; An inky black beer, pouring with a foamy tan head and an oily body. It has leather, oak and vanilla flavours with smooth chocolate and earthy notes on the finish. Very nice.
