Thanks Chuck! The beer pours to a pitch black body with a thin off white head. Aromas of chocolate and black licorice. Some peaty scotch. Flavor is chocolate and peaty scotch. There’s some light anise. Palate is medium-full bodied and has a clean texture. Quite smooth and nice.

Bottle at home. Best before June 2014. Nice creamy thick light brown head. Beautiful. Aroma is chocolate, coffee, pistachios, liqorice, leather. Body: Full. Taste: Awesome balance. Slightly sweet, a little bitte, a little salty. Flavor: An explosion. Flavor resembles the aroma, I get chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toasted nuts, red berries, leather, burnt wood, ash, vanilla, and probably lots more. Long, lingering aftertaste. Fantastic stuff!

Complex aroma of dark dried fruits, tar and smoke. The taste is also complex with similar flavours with some chocolate in the background. A little bitter, maybe from the wood?

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Aged bottle. Pours black tar with no head. Aroma is very savory - soy sauce predominates. Taste is smoke, soy sauce, whiskey. I got no chocolate or sweetness. Kind of a mess. It could have been due to improper handling along the way.

Rated on 4-07-2010 (Bottled on 1-2009 and Bottle No. 10226) When poured, this beer has a small tan head that mostly diminishes, opaque black body, and spotty amounts of lacing. The aroma is malt, chocolate, dark fruits, and whiskey. The taste is sweet, chocolate and whiskey. The palate is tingly and this beer is medium bodied. Overall, this beer is not for the faint of heart. It is a sipping beer that would be a nice cold weather beer. It has a wonderful flavor, worth trying and definitely a beer I would drink again. More please!

Birra divina!

Ola Dubh (or "Black Oil") is so named because it is gloopy and viscous. This limited release has been matured in casks from Orkney’s award-winning Highland Park distillery to add complimentary whisky notes to what is already an amazing brew. It is chocolatey with a roasty, bittersweet aftertaste. Special Reserve 18, whisky notes: Highland Park 18 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky was named Best Spirit in the World by F. Paul Pacult; it offers toffee sweetness, almond nuttiness and a prolonged, smoky aftertaste.
