COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Ola Dubh (or "Black Oil") is so named because it is gloopy and viscous. This limited release has been matured in casks from Orkney’s award-winning Highland Park distillery to add complimentary whisky notes to what is already an amazing brew. It is chocolatey with a roasty, bittersweet aftertaste. Special Reserve 18, whisky notes: Highland Park 18 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky was named Best Spirit in the World by F. Paul Pacult; it offers toffee sweetness, almond nuttiness and a prolonged, smoky aftertaste.

Thanks Chuck! The beer pours to a pitch black body with a thin off white head. Aromas of chocolate and black licorice. Some peaty scotch. Flavor is chocolate and peaty scotch. There’s some light anise. Palate is medium-full bodied and has a clean texture. Quite smooth and nice.

Bottle, pours black with a beige head. Aroma: peat, wood, chocolate, ash. Taste: roast, chocolate, peat, ash, vanilla, blueberries, yoghurt. Medium sweet and balancing bitterness, creamy texture, getting a bit thin in the warming finish. Well balanced, lovely.

edsspoon (744) - Nottinghamshire, ENGLAND - JUN 22, 2015
Bottle - pours black with a very dark brown fizzy head which quickly fades to a ring. Aroma of peaty whisky, a little antiseptic, some smoke and hints of cocoa. Taste of peat, smoke, cocoa and earthy malts with some vanilla and paprika. Medium body, medium carbonation. A tasty treat, but the body is a little thin which lets it down a little.

0.33 bottle. Insanely dark brown color, (recognizable from black due to light diffraction on the edges), and a medium, brownish head. Strong aroma of roast, dark malts, chocolate, wood, and a sting of whiskey. Taste is very malty, fantastically smoky, prominently chocolaty, and wonderfully balanced. Medium to full body, veritably thick texture, and flat carbonation. Finish is a tad fruitier but also more whiskey-induced. Overall a splendid beer, inherently smacking of high quality whiskey but at the same time at no point is it alcoholic or irritating; certainly worthy of a wholehearted recommendation.

---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle 33cl. Black with a minimal and short-lived lightbrown head. Roasted malty nose, with whiskey, chocolate and vanilla sense. Sweet taste, light bitter with a mild chocolate end.

Bottle from Beltramo’s in Menlo Park, CA. The stuff used to fuel ol’ Kevin as he’s chunting through the peat bog.

bottle at home. Pours medium black, small grey-ish beige head. Deep caramel and toffee, sight smoke. Medium body, sweet and roast. Taste is ashy and salty. Less outspoken than the 12 version.

Bottle. Black colour with small brown foam. Aroma is complex and strong, with roasted malts, whiskey, wood, and chocolate. Taste has lots of roasted malts, coffee, chocolate notes, vanilla, alcohol, smoke. Good balance between bitter and sweet. Medium body. Velvety but not heavy mouthfeel. Very good stuff.

Bottle from Great Grog’s, tasted together with 16yo. Pours very dark brown with brown head. Nose is boozier than in 16yo, whisky, wood, roasted malts. Taste is roasted malts, sweet chocolate, oak, sweet vanilla, whisky, smoke. Taste is fuller and richer than in 16yo but nose is not very tempting. I still recall 12yo was the best of the three, should have tasted it now as well.
