COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Ola Dubh (or "Black Oil") is so named because it is gloopy and viscous. This limited release has been matured in casks from Orkney’s award-winning Highland Park distillery to add complimentary whisky notes to what is already an amazing brew. It is chocolatey with a roasty, bittersweet aftertaste. Special Reserve 18, whisky notes: Highland Park 18 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky was named Best Spirit in the World by F. Paul Pacult; it offers toffee sweetness, almond nuttiness and a prolonged, smoky aftertaste.

I am not a big whiskey guy, but I do love whiskey barrel aged beers. This is no different. Nice dark and viscous. Beautiful dark malt, smoke, and vanilla nose from the scotch. The taste is a nice harmony of beer and scotch, especially as it warms. Vanilla, dark bitter chocolate and that boozey smoke taste.

Aroma from bottle upon opening is pure chocolate, dark one. Tasting notes of the same, vanilla, bourbon, whiskey, caramel, hot sweet butter, booze. Taste is sweet, chocolatey but overall very watery. Expected more viscosity. Overall a good barrel aging, far better than the 12 variant. Would add more sugars or roasted malt to the brew ;)

Very similar to the 16 year version, but we liked the 16 year old better. It had a richer nose and flavor. Dark in color and well balanced. No smoke aroma or flavor like the 16 year version.

The 18 year version in this noble old ale series, tasted after the basic Old Engine Oil and the 12 year version, thanks to Jan. This one differs from the 12 year version in being softer and more rounded in the whisky department: though still very obvious, the Highland Park is a little bit less noticeable in the aroma and has less influence on the taste, probably because older whisky in itself has a more gentle and rounded character. Interesting to taste this side by side with the others, but a great ale in its own right.

Drobna brązowa piana, opadła szybko do zera. Przy tym alkoholu to częściowo zrozumiałe. Kolor ciemnobrązowy, nieprzejrzyste. W aromacie ciemne słody i zdecydowana beczka. Nuty dębowe, garbnikowe. Lekko kwaskowy, " drewniany" zapach. W drugiej nucie lekka wanilia. W smaku sporo garbników. Lekko orzechowe, przypomina nalewkę orzechową. Nuty dębowe, beczkowe. Pojawiają się nuty gorzkiej czekolady. Dość wytrawne, słodycz na ledwo wyczuwalnym poziomie. Bardzo dobre piwo ale 16-tka była lepsza, miała bardziej złożony smak.

11.2oz bottle shared by Pizz5116 after work. Pours dark brown/almost black in color with a small fast fading tan head. Aroma of rich caramel, marshmallow, scotch, butterscotch, and oak. Taste roasted malt, earth, toffee, caramel, dry wood, hints of scotch, and a mild nuttiness.

Dark brown, bit more murk and ringed head (fresher of the bunch we’re having). Bright cooking choc, nice warming whiskey. Bit more roast, bit more bitter, bit more bitter. Cleaner toffee, bloodied finish. Tiny ashen waft.

Black colour, small bubbly white head. Sweet aroma, whisky and caramel. Sweet flavour, malts, whisky. Finish whisky, wood and molasse.
