3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle thanks to my brother. Black brew with a thin tan head. Sweet peaty nose with hints of chocolate. There is also some molasses. The taste is nice smooth rich tobacco and dark chocolate. There is also some of the salty brine character. The whiskey is relatively subtle. Nice.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft at TBBT. Half pour into goblet. Nose is lightly smokey with some dark chocolate. Medium sized brown head. Black in color. Nice lacing. Taste is moderately tart indicating there is some non sacch fermentation. Not horsey tho. Not much too much barrel component other than the smoke and a light vanilla. Overall tasty.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pitch black-body with a tiny, short-lived, medium brown head that disappears almost completely, but the viscous-looking pour and the lovely colour saves the Appearance. Extraordinarily inviting, sweet, malty and very strong aroma of massive chocolate: dark chocolate, bitter chocolate and chocolate sauce. The beer doesn’t try to hide the fact that it has been aged in whisky barrels: I get lots of lovely notes of gentle whisky, without much peat. Also vanilla, and an overall vinous feel, even with some hints of port. Finally I pick up notes that remind me of lactic sugar, in a milk stout way? Strong flavour of chocolate, dark caramel, gentle whisky, dark dried fruits and a bit too much alcohol. In the back the sweet vanilla further increases the complexity of this brew. The taste is moderate sweet and moderate bitter. The mouthfeel is actually a bit of a letdown, it beer feels far thinner than it looks, and the texture is less oily than expected. In lack of a better word I’d call it a bit watery... The finish is light dry, and the carbonation is soft. A brilliant beer with an amazing aroma and wonderful flavour, but a bit too alcoholic for such a "low" ABV beer, and I would have wanted a fuller body and a thicker and more oily texture.

Bottle. Oily pour, small head. Aroma of cacao, smokey peat and salty licorice. Nice taste of peat, smoke, coffee, iodine and salt. Mouthfeel is smooth, body a bit thin. Good, but I expected more.

Bottle thanks to Paul. Pours a cloudy brown with small beige head that diminishes quickly. The aroma is roasted malt, dark fruit, and oak. Thin mouth, peat, oak, roast, boozy finish, very good.

Had this immediately aftet the Ola Dubh 12 and can say the previous on3 is better. Not to say this is a bad beer, but it has a sweet taste and after taste which are a bit of turn off, unless you likeit like that. Still not a bad beer at all. Clove

4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours an opaque black with a lively mocha brown head which soon disappears into a brown ring around the circumference. Aroma is slightly weak but there’s hints of sweet toffee and a whiff of peatiness similar to an Islay whisky. Taste is sweet toffee, slight double-cream, cocoa powder and a hint of roast coffee bitterness. Thick body with a succulent mouthfeel and a long cocoa finish.
