beerinmarch (2781), Alabama, USA Jul 21, 2008 PIB 2008. Having this from cask was a treat. Pours very dark brown, almost black, small brown head. Big scotch not, even more then the 12 year. Soft smoked flavors give this a lot of complexity. Chocolate and toffee flavors lead to a dry earthy and peaty finish. Very nice. Sammy (3934), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jul 19, 2008 The best and the most expensive of the trio, all tried in a week. Pours black with small bubbly head. Aroma of whisky, a little bourbon. The taste is rich and complete, how would it be after a few more years?A unique ale with a whiskey character. Above average mouthfeel. Feels more "cooked" or complete than the previous two others. LooseCannon (914), Norfolk, Virginia, USA Jul 19, 2008 11.2oz bottle, Bottle No & Date 04581/Sept 2007. Pours pitch black in color with thin brown head. Aroma sweet, chocolate and butterscotch. Taste of roasted coffee, dark chocolate and whiskey with bitter finsih. jerohen (1602), Bussum, Netherlands Jul 19, 2008 Dutch tasting session Bunnik. Bottled, at the courtesy of a collegue (Michiel) who brought this from Maryland, USA. Opaque, brown head. Malty nose, peaty, lots of chocolate, fantastic. Smooth flavour, malts and chcolate again. Bitter finish. Mouthfeel not as thick as a thought it would be. Good, but not as exceptional as i thought it would be. jbrus (4835), Delft, Netherlands Jul 19, 2008 Bottle@DTS. Peay aroma with butterscotch and ash when warming up. Opague, beige head, fair lace. Sweet, peaty, ash, roasted, coffee, some licorice, very smooth. Unbelievable compexity and balance. Great stuff! heemer77 (4294), Savannah, Missouri, USA Jul 17, 2008 Thanks for sharing, iowaherkeye. The body is perfectly black with a thin light khaki head. The aroma has some rich cocoa along with some light coffee notes. There is also some peat and sea water. The taste has some light notes of peat and toffee. There is a nice green tea note. The finish has some iodine and tobacco. Ughsmash (3981), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Jul 16, 2008 Thanks to Devon for bringing this! Poured deep brown with a loose cap of beige head. The aroma picked up quite lightly smoked caramel and chocolate notes upfront with a touch of wood.. the brew was very well integrated with the barrel. The flavor found dry liquid smoke paired with darker chocolate, toffee, and caramel maltage.. black pepper and scorched black patent malt right behind.. the mellow, smooth Scotch was well-integrated, but I wasn’t enamored with the malt bill. Dry on the palate (almost bracingly so on the back) and medium-bodied with a long finish.. almost a stale feel on the middle. This was a solid offering. TheCheeseMan (538), Saint Cloud, Florida, USA Jul 14, 2008 Courtesy of SoLan. Pours an opaque black. Aroma is an elegant melange of wood and peat, smoke and sweet. While not a Scotch fan per se, the aroma of the whisky barrel is beguiling. The flavor is well integrated, with all the components balanced harmoniously, creating a great beer. I liked this better than the 12, though no where near as much as the 16.
