| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 4, 2009 Bottle from City Beer Store in SF. Black color with a beige head and decent retention. Aroma is really roasty with alcohol present. Flavor is roasted malt, chocolate, and molasses, with smoke standing out more as the beer warms. Fairly viscous on the palate, but not quite as much as the name implies. Oh well, it’s better to be less oily in this case in my opinion. Great stuff overall. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Apr 1, 2009 Pours almost black, with a somewhat astringent aroma. Chocolate shows itself in the smell, but alcohol is definitely in the forefront. Milk chocolate dominates the taste. Slight hop note in the finish, with a funky aftertaste thats not very good. chops (60), Brantford, Ontario, Canada
