Commercial Description:
Bottle: Filtered.
A superb, rich, full-bodied beer derived from a 1970s homebrewing recipe. Wickedly smooth chocolate dominates the flavour, which is nicely balanced by the bitterness of the hops.

Bottle from City Beer Store in SF. Black color with a beige head and decent retention. Aroma is really roasty with alcohol present. Flavor is roasted malt, chocolate, and molasses, with smoke standing out more as the beer warms. Fairly viscous on the palate, but not quite as much as the name implies. Oh well, it’s better to be less oily in this case in my opinion. Great stuff overall.

Pours almost black, with a somewhat astringent aroma. Chocolate shows itself in the smell, but alcohol is definitely in the forefront. Milk chocolate dominates the taste. Slight hop note in the finish, with a funky aftertaste thats not very good.

Bottle. Poured black with a creamy tan head that slowly settles to a ring and left light lace. Burnt malt aroma. The flavor found milk chocolate, coffee, nut, and a slight roast. Medium body and a light roast coffee aftertaste.

Pours with an average creamy light brown head and a black colour. Heavy burnt chocolate-coffee aroma. A tar-charcoal- slightly hoppy taste that is overwhelmed in the finish with a heavy astringent bitterness and heavy-harsh black malt flavour.

330 mL bottle. Pours black with a tan head. Moderate aroma of chocolate and smooth roasty coffee. Flavor is grapes and raisins, chocolate, and roastiness in a medium strength body. Excellent finish brings out some hops and some roasty coffee to compliment the dark fruits and chocolate.
