Bottle. Dark brown with a brown head. Thick malty body and flavor. Chocolate and a hint of berries roll with this malt ball centric beer.

Very dark beer. Small head. I can taste the chocolate - they call it an after dinner beer, I agree its very sweet. I really like the taste although I don’t think I’d want more than one or two in a sitting.

Strong chocolate aroma and flavor. The color was not as dark as I thought it would be...ya know, engine oil color. Malty goodness to the last drop. Nice brew. I really thought this was a porter...maybe even a sweet stout.

UPDATED: MAR 4, 2008 Excellent Scotch ale. I didn’t take any notes, so I have no meaningful verbiage to offer... only the score. Recommended!

Darkish brown with nutty caramel flavors. Not really much complexity. I couldn’t find any hops to speak of.

Orange-black; Dense but thin head. Alcohol and cherrys in the nose. Porter-sih. Good.

Deep chocolate start that relaxes to a slightly bitter middle. There is some hops presence at the end, but not enough to balance the chewy chocolate bar aftertaste.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Drew (2411) - Kent, Ohio, USA - OCT 14, 2002
Looks like oil, and as it warms, it gains the viscosity of a smooth oil. Tasted chocolate, anise, little bit of alc., and a sweetness at the end that reminded me of apples. This is a nice warming sipper.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 VENOM (941) - Connecticut, USA - OCT 11, 2002
Transmission fluid ruby/brown. Thin, tan edge head. Light big bubbled carbonation. Soothing aroma of molasses, light peat, wood chips and caramel. Rich but slightly fizzy. Deep, dark caramel and molasses flavors. Thick caramel sweetness, not sugar sweet but richly sweet. Medium heavy body, if not for the fizziness. Think 5W. Mild bitterness. Softens as it sits. Sweetness balances by an increased roasted molasses astringency. Finishes with an increased bitterness and charred brown sugar essence. Not quite motor oil, but rich and flavorful.
