Beardface (977), Eugene, Oregon, USA Jan 14, 2009 Dark viscous pour with a thin tan head. Heavy but extremely pleasant roasted chocolate aroma. Very roasted flavor as well with coffee and some plum as well. Extremely tasty brew. gwpom (246), Akron, New York, USA Jan 9, 2009 11.2 oz. Pours out as black as the oil it’s named after...and the nose hits right away, roasted chocolate, yet not overpowering. Thick dark creamy head, and lovely smooth flavor. Not as bitter as the aroma would lead you to believe... Very nice. kiefdog (1567), Tampa, Florida, USA Jan 8, 2009 12oz bottle from Parti-Pak Liquors (Indianapolis, IN). Pours a jet black color with one finger off-white head that settles quickly but still laces the glass. Aroma is malty and sweet with notes of dark chocolate, coffee, sweet toffee, some slight smokiness and wood. Flavor is not as good as the aroma, but has nice notes of roasted malts, coffee bitterness, dark chocolate, hints of ripe dark fruit, some grassy barnyard funk. Generally medium to full body with a slightly watery finish. slimchill (773), Austin, Texas, USA Jan 7, 2009 Bottle. Nose is sweet chocolate with notes of peat smoke and caramel. Thick black with a thin tan head. Very tasty, good chocolate sweetness and smoky roastiness balance. A touch thin, almost watery and bland in the finish, but nonetheless a robust beer with good character. mabel (2530), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jan 3, 2009 [1738-20081001] 330mL bottle. Roasted nuts, dark sugary molasses malt and some woody bark notes in the aroma. Dark black ruby-hued body with a medium-lasting foamy tan head. Rich cocoa chocolate butter malt flavour. Full body. Wonderfully full flavour. SynergyXJ (506), Blacksburg, Virginia, USA Jan 3, 2009 Bottle, #435. Black pour with medium head. Not strong aroma, but a bit of roastyness. Chocolate roasted flavor with a creamy finish. Pretty good. RedXIII (127), Powell, Ohio, USA Dec 24, 2008 Mostly aroma and flavor of chocolate and malt, and touch of caramel. A bitter, slightly creamy finish. Dark black color with medium thickness and a little lacing. Very drinkable but just not very complex. Not bad though. rosenbergh (843), Helsinki, Finland Dec 24, 2008 330 ml bottle. Finland.
