SavageElvis (134), Savage, Minnesota, USA Oct 15, 2009 Pours a good looking jet black body with a low caramel head. Displays a subtle balance of hop and malt aroma. This brew does leave a good heavy mouth feel that will lay on the tongue. Has a hoppy dark bitter chocolate taste that dissipates quickly leaving one looking for much more complexity, yet balanced. Virtually no lacing whatsoever on my glass. Overall, this is a nice mild dark ale, but not worthy of the high price tag it brings. beernovice39 (244), South Carolina, USA Oct 14, 2009 Jet black like a stout. Chocolate burnt smokey stuff going on here....little bit of hops on the back end. Not bad at all ruskiimperial (52), Richmond, Virginia, USA Oct 9, 2009 A very dark pour from this beer. It is about as dark as most imperial stouts. The initial flavor has some dark fruit, especially plumb and raisin. Initial taste gives way to burnt malts with some generous amounts of chocolate. Aftertaste provides the dark fruit, which lingers a bit longer along with some mild hoppy bitterness. Certainly an interesting beer. plovmand (1590), Helsinge, Denmark Oct 9, 2009 Bottle. Very dark brown with a medium tan head. Aroma is ripe fruit, chocolate, light roasty and light tobacco. The flavour is light smoky, roasty with notes of bitter chocolate and sweet malt. Quite nice. boamr (112), Pennsylvania, USA Oct 7, 2009 Pours black with a little white head. Smells smokey like a porter. Taste is smokey and a little chocolate in there as well. Not my kind of beer GranvilleTim (467), Granville, Illinois, USA Oct 5, 2009 What a tasty beer. I have seen this before and finally picked one up. Dark black pour with a brown head. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malt, with some sweetness in the nose. Taste is of roasted malt, little bitterness and chocolate in the aftertaste with some sweetness coming out also. Some lacing on the glass. cking (1012), North Canton, Ohio, USA Oct 2, 2009 Aroma of roasted, nutty malts with charred pan leavins followed by chocolate and molasses. Dark and opaque brown/black body with a 1" thick, lasting brown head and heavy lacing that coats the glass. Full bodied, exceptionally creamy and well balanced. Burnt toast, roasted nuts and mild cocoa flavors followed by a dose of brown sugar, crystal malt and a faint tobacco quality. Great ale that’s unique and comforting. richlikebeer (823), Easton, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 26, 2009 everything about this screams porter, right up to the point that the anise and hops kick in at the end...almost like a foreign stout with the sourness in the tail...lots of burnt malt and chocolate up until that point that i enjoyed...just not sold on the close
