mcsquint (93), , Missouri, USA Oct 10, 2008 Poured from 11.2oz bottle this beer is almost black in color with a thin creamy head. Aromas of chocolate and coffee. Tastes of chocolate malt with a bit of molasses. Finishes more like a Porter. Full mouthfeel. This is very tasty. Not a session brew, but would be a nice treat after a hearty meal. Defreni (994), Frederiksberg, Denmark Oct 4, 2008 Flaske. Flot cremet skum på en mørk øl. Engelsk lakrids i duften. Smagen er "gammel" og jeg fatter ikke hvordan jeg kan skrive det om en old ale, men det skal forstås på den gode måde. Den slutter bittert. Udmærket øl. Angeloregon (2024), Portland, Oregon, USA Sep 25, 2008 Bottle from By the Bottle in Vancouver, WA--What a treat. In a nice new fresh label. A mid-bodied opaque black body with an amber hue and a thin tan swirl head. Sweet, nutty, gritty, malten nose. Noteworthy vanilla, chalky, chocolaty, dessertive, roasted, lovable, super dark yet highly quaffable glass of freakin’ beer. This beer excused many a bad UK beers. Oi! Wulfstan (509), California, USA Sep 23, 2008 This is very nice. Black, it has a small-to-medium head, light bornw and dense, slowly shrinking. The smell is chocolate, prunes, hints of earth, leaves, bread, a hint of coffee, like a nice, rich porter crossed with Old Pecuilier. The taste is full-bodied rich but smooth and zesty. It has chocolate, brown bread, fruit, prunes, hints of toast and wine and earth and licorice. It’s very nice and goes down easily despite the full character. jcwattsrugger (5223), Florida and, New Jersey, USA Sep 22, 2008 bottle-pours a tan head that reduces to a ring and black color. Aroma is dark malt-molasses/cocoa powder, ash, tart dark fruit. Taste is dark malt-cocoa, tart dark fruit. Mid taste on molasses/cocoa powder, ash comes to the front. Unusual. Occasional. AndyReynolds (280), Wilder, Kentucky, USA Sep 17, 2008 Updated: Mar 31, 2009Had in a growler from Party Source. Pours a deep dark chocolate color with little transparency. The aroma was strong of roasted malts, chocolate and a bit of coffee. The taste was, to quote a friend, "...like an upgraded Guinness." I was a little disappointed considering the guy who filled my growler really recommended it and said it was one of the best stouts. Not a bad beer though and worthy of another try. beeR (60), Helsinki, Finland Sep 9, 2008 33 cl bottle. Very dark and clean. Creamy tan head, doesn’t fall down as quickly as others say. The nose is not very strong nor persistent but quite rich: a blen of dark chocolate, coffee and red fruits plus a sweet caramel note. The flavor matchs perfectly with the nose because sweetness and roasty bitterness merge with a bitter aftertaste. wery well balanced. Medium body pleasantly silky mouthcoating. DocHop (278), Baltimore, Maryland, USA Sep 8, 2008 Pours a very dark brown, almost black, with very little light brown head that fades but rings the glass. Stout aroma of chocolate, roasted coffee, and light caramel. Heavily roasted malt flavor, but there is a sweet caramel taste at the start and the finish is very pleasant with a little burnt bittersweet chocolate lingering for a while. Very smooth and full bodied beer.
