Commercial Description:
Bottle: Filtered.
A superb, rich, full-bodied beer derived from a 1970s homebrewing recipe. Wickedly smooth chocolate dominates the flavour, which is nicely balanced by the bitterness of the hops.

330 ml bottle. Colour completely black, with a thin but lasting brownish head. Roasted, a bit smoky aroma with dark chocolate. Full mouthfeel. Flavour is burnt malts, coffee and dark chocolate, with a nice, burnt, hoppy, lingering aftertaste. A very enjoyable beer indeed.

(On tap) A good dark beer. Some bitterness, made of a combination of hop bite and roast. A little complexity. My main complaint is that it for some reason comes across as very thin, almost watery. This thinness is poorly suited to the name this beer has been given. Overall, though, I greatly enjoyed it.

-did not like would not but- Aroma:very mild sweet smoked dark malts. Dry cocoa. App: dark thin black pale tab head. Flavor: eh. This is from a tap. I was wanting more. It is good just a bit thin and not rich. It has a better afte flavor than flavor. Palate: thin and spritzy OA: nice good not great. Needs to be rich! And full! Like old would be.

330 ml bottle. Completely black color, lasting tan head. Aroma of sweet roasted malts and coffee. Full body, taste starts with chocolate and rounds off with juicy malt flavor and a lot of coffee. Nice mix of sweetness and bitterness, a very good brew indeed!

33cl bottle. A pitch black beer with a fine, fizzy, tan head that deposites a decent lacing before dispersing into a single layer of carbonation. Deep and thicky syrupy aromas with notes of roasted malts and lots of chocolate. The roasted malts come strutting to the forefront when the black liquid hits your tongue, accompanied by its citric hop younger sibling, before softening into liquorice and fresh bread. A subtle, dry bitter chocolate finish. Fairly robust, yet soft on the palate.

Listed as an old ale on the B United website, I always considered this to be a porter of sorts.I don’t enjoy this as much as I enjoy the barrel aged special reserve. This has some dark fruits going on as well as some chocolate, and a bit of licorice and molasses, like its name states a very oily mouthfeel, but not overly complex, but quite drinkable, not heavy at all.

Eh, not a whole lot going on here really. Pours jet black, and looks nice, but too watery to remind me of engine oil. Taste is flat and lifeless. Like a mess of dark fruit and mud. Never balances out or finds a personality. Watery in spots. That compost comment from the rating before mine is spot on, lots of things going on here, none of them very good.
