Oct 2, 2009 Aroma of roasted, nutty malts with charred pan leavins followed by chocolate and molasses. Dark and opaque brown/black body with a 1" thick, lasting brown head and heavy lacing that coats the glass. Full bodied, exceptionally creamy and well balanced. Burnt toast, roasted nuts and mild cocoa flavors followed by a dose of brown sugar, crystal malt and a faint tobacco quality. Great ale that’s unique and comforting.

Sep 26, 2009 everything about this screams porter, right up to the point that the anise and hops kick in at the end...almost like a foreign stout with the sourness in the tail...lots of burnt malt and chocolate up until that point that i enjoyed...just not sold on the close

Sep 19, 2009 Bottle into a pint glass. The aroma is all coffee and sour soy sauce. The flavor is a hint of sour and coffee - almost like an American stout. Smooth and slick but high carbonation for the style.

Sep 15, 2009 11.2 oz from the Boise Co-op. Pours a dark brown color with a massive light-beige head and loads of sticky lacing. The aroma is smooth chocolates, roasted malts, maybe some smoke. The flavor is nice; sweet chocolates and coffee, some light fruit and a pervasive earthy-smoke flavor. Sort of thin, but nice. Really, this is a porter not an Old Ale.

Sep 12, 2009 Bottle. Remarkable and original beer. The aroma gives chocolate, biscuits, and fruits of the forest. Flavour starts sweet, with nice bitterness in the background and a long finish. Looks good, black with an average creamy head with good length. Oily in the palate, medium to full body.

Sep 11, 2009 Bottle from Utobeer market stall. Pours jet black with a nice long lasting beige head. Aromas of coffee, chocolate, smoke. Flavours of coffee, caramel, dark chocolate, blackberries, raisins. Has a pleasently sweet, dry finish.
