Ingredients: Pale malt; Roasted barley; Oats; Washington Galena, Worcester Fuggles and Kent Goldings hops.
A superb, rich, full-bodied beer derived from a 1970s homebrewing recipe. Wickedly smooth chocolate dominates the flavour, which is nicely balanced by the bitterness of the hops.

Bottle, 330 ml. Pours an extremely dark ruby (practically opaque) with a small amount of tan head. The head doesn’t stick around very long and leaves a nice amount of thick lacing. Aroma of roasted malts, caramel, dark fruits, dark chocolate and a little bit of smoke and something metallic. Taste of roasted malts, salted caramel, chocolate which seems to be dark initially but transitions to milk on the finish, liquorice and maybe a little bit of vanilla hiding in there. Initial hit is fairly bitter and smoky wheras the finish is quite sweet, containing most of the chocolate, caramel and vanilla notes. Body is medium to full and the texture isn’t too sharp thanks to low carbonation, making this one kind on the back of the throat and the tounge. Pretty nice overall.

Bottle. This beer has it all. From its cool label and name to its taste. Taste of dark fruits and roasted coffee. Has a medium slick mouth feel to it. I enjoyed this one in a hot tub, and would be happy to do so again, even without the hot tub.

Aroma is some dark fruits and smoke. Appearance is black like old engine oil with a 1/4 finger tan head that dissipates quickly. Taste is chocolate with a hoppy finish. Palate is excellent. Overall very good.

Bottle. Black with a 1 finger tan head. Aroma is chocolate and roasted malt. Taste follows suit but the roast character in the finish is incredible. Medium mouthfeel with strong carb and a long finish. Really simple but really delicious.

Dark brown with beige head. Taste medium sweet, mild bitter. Aroma roasted malt, lactose. Despite the name not particularly thick on the palate. Finish is pleasantly bitter.

Bottle at home. Originally purchased from Cambridge Wine Merchants. Colour is inky purplish black. Aroma of liquorice, seawater, chocolate, pine, alcohol. Taste is an assertive yet balanced sweetness, matched by a hop bitterness in the finish and aftertaste. Very, very tasty. Medium mouthfeel, just the right amount of carbonation. Surprisingly refreshing for a beer of this strength and style. A fantastic recipe.

Sehr dunkelbraunes Bier mit geringer Schaumkrone. Geruch sehr röstmalzig, holzig, dunkle reife Früchte, Vanille, so ist auch der Geschmack.
