Sep 9, 2009 Black as, well, old engine oil with a nice beige head. Malty, chocolate aroma begs you to take a sip. Smooth and absolutely delicious. Semi-sweet chocolate entry leads to a creamy full finish with bitter coffee and ash. One of the best beers I’ve tried in a while.

Sep 9, 2009 Bottle thanks to the SAQ ! Pours deep black with a big brown creamy head. Extensive lacing. Nose of roasted malt, porter like. A bit ashy/smoked. Some sweet chocolate as well. Taste is porter-like, some roasted malt, quite sweet. Finish is quite dry and a bit ashy. Not very bitter/hoppy.

Sep 4, 2009 Bottle. Pours black with a brown head. Aroma is full of coffee notes assisted by a caramel and hazelnut notes. Flavor is dark with a bit of a coffee flavor and a bit of saltiness. Actually balances quite well and some notes of sweet nuts. A bit awkward on the tongue and not particularly viscous.

Sep 1, 2009 Let’s go SAQ, let’s go! End-of-summer newcomer, this is very interesting, porter-like, with a foamy ivory head. Very tasty, sweet and chocolaty, with a perfectly balanced bitterness and a hell of a texture. Long slightly bitter aftertaste. I love this beer and this brewer!

Aug 31, 2009 Appearance: About as black as a liquid can get, with a small rough tan head. Carbonation? I have no idea, there is a bit on the surface but it’s dark to see any inside.
Aroma: Rich dark roasted malts. Strong coffee. Smoked wood chips. Also, a tiny bit like bacon, very weird.
Taste: Smokey, roasted malts. Chocolate but more milky than dark. Light coffee, and also hints of kola nut. The aftertaste is bittersweet as the brewers suggest.
Mouthfeel: Heavy, silky, smooth, creamy, and incredibly thick.
Drinklability: Beautifully silky ale, with rich and moreish flavours. Most people who know anything about beer will have already tried this, if you haven’t, then you should.

Aug 28, 2009 A dark brown almost black colored beer, with a brown thick foamy head. The aroma of dry roasted malts with coffee and chocolate. There are notes of dark fruits. The taste is dry bitter, laurel sweets, chocalte and coffee. Some dark fruits. The aftertaste is bitter dry with a little sweet.

Aug 26, 2009 Pours black w/little to no head that disipates quickly. Smells of rich chocolate. First taste is chocolate and rich bitter coffee. The bitterness stays on the palate. Overall this is a quality beer that I’m glad I tried. Cheers.

Aug 12, 2009 Beauty with a deep dark viscous look and chocolate smell. Almost ethereal. Lovely and deep. Lots of dark chocolate.
