Big smoky oat and chocolate aroma. Certainly looks oily - blackish brown and syrupy. Bittersweet cocoa flavor with some hopping evident midway through. Strikes me as a porter more than anything else.
3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 rauchbierlover (202) - ITALY - MAR 20, 2012
Nice porter. Thick dark black body with a minimal tan head. Aroma of coffee, dark chocolate. Taste is bittersweet and well balanced between the saweet of the chocolate malt and the bitterness given by hops. Medium body, slightly oily texture
4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 ccex (255) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAR 19, 2012
11.2 oz bottle pours an opaque black with a small tan head and lots of lacing. Nose is of roasted malts and chocolate. Aroma also has coffee and bread., and a bit of wood smoke. Intial taste is sweet with the hops kicking in for a more bitter finish. Body is as but mouthfeel is not that oily. A great beer which almost substitutes for a meal.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Beerhammaren (171) - FINLAND - MAR 15, 2012
Pours black with medium tan head. Aroma is coffee and roasted malts. Flavor is coffee, roasted malts, bit of cholate. Little bit of bitter beer is decent. I miss a bit deeper aromas and flavors.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 DeliriumT (135) - Brisbane, AUSTRALIA - MAR 15, 2012
Jet black and syrupy looking stout with little head. The smell is burnt chocolate like any good dark beer. The beer is deliciously complex but the carbonation seems a little bit strong. Obviously it’s hard to create foamy head in a bottle but the peppery carbonation can overwhelm your palate. Otherwise very enjoyable complex beer
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 ACD (93) - Dublin, IRELAND - MAR 14, 2012
33cl bottle. Pours jet black with small, uneven, bubbly dissipating tan-brown head. Aroma of smoke, chocolate malt, deep caramel sweetness, coffee. Taste full of chocolate, coffee, deep dark fruit, tobacco leaf, and almost rauchbier-like smoked flavours. Very smooth, silky, and full mouthfeel and a lingering bitterness. Lovely stuff from Harviestoun.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 superspak (778) - Michigan, USA - MAR 11, 2012
11.2 ounce bottle into tulip, no bottle date. Pours pitch black color with a nice 2 finger dense tan head with fantastic retention that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Some nice soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of dark chocolate, coffee, roasted malt, caramel, and light herbal hops. Nice and well balanced aromas. Taste of big dark and milk chocolate, coffee, roasted malts, caramel, toffee, dark fruit, and light herbal spiciness. Light coffee bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of chocolate, caramel, coffee, and herbal spiciness linger for a while. Great balance of flavors. Light-medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with an extremely excellent creamy, lush, and slick mouthfeel. Alcohol is well hidden with only a slight warming after the finish. Very smooth to drink, but this was definitely designed to be a sipper despite the moderate ABV. Overall this is a fantastic porter. Great robust flavor and a lush mouthfeel make this extremely enjoyable.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 berlinoise2go (381) - NORWAY - MAR 10, 2012
[Old Engine Oil Porter] Bottle (33cl) from Vinmonopolet (Vika), Oslo. Very dark brown/black colour. Half-inch beige head, settling as a fine-bubbled ring with some lacing. Aroma of smoked meat, roasted malt, dark chocolate, coffee, licorice. Medium body, soft carbonation. Taste is quite sweet upfront with a meaty saltiness, then more dry (raw licorice), with a mildly bitter finish. Long and pleasant aftertaste.
